Cool as Ice

Just wanted to share a little story with you. I got in touch with Ian aka Coolice last night as he had offered to help me set up my Heli (550e) a few weeks ago. He happened to be available so arranged i'd go over for 10 this morning.....was as excited as a kid before xmas last night! So anyway i have spent the day in Ian's lovely workshop and now my head is with spinning with information, altho i did manage to supply him one tool he didn't have!
I have learnt a hell of a lot about setups today and now thanks to Ian's quick but methodical work i have a fully flying 550e and fully programmed Dx8. I have some way to go before i have the confidence to try it myself completely.


So i just wanted to say thanks to Ian and his lovely family for making me feel so welcome today and helping me finish this project.

got to say you made the right choice going to Ian. i have known him for some time now and have seen him at work many times with all types of RC helicopters ( including my own ) his knowledge and attention to detail is second to none. where i would have said that will do he will stop me and take over to get it spot on. and the proof is in the flying as they say !

top man you are mate keep up the good work lol

p.s his better half makes a cracking lunch and keeps the tea flowing

Hey Matt.

It was good to meet you today and thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it.

I'm so glad you're happy with the model and at the same time learnt a lot in the process, the latter you can then apply to future models and even try replicating on your 450.
Also for someone who hasn't flown anything bigger than a 450 until today, you took to the model very well. It is a good sized machine and will help your flying skills improve, as it's a more stable platform from which to try new things with.

As I said any problems or questions you have, just give me a shout.
I'll have Sophie on standby again with the biscuits for your next visit

I've had two more hovers with it this week, just to show my work mates, i'm amazed at how much attention it gets from people! I'll start hovering it when there is no one around and suddenly people appear from nowhere!! I always make sure i have a spotter tho.

I love this heli! It feels so much more locked in than any of my others and i think i'm starting to get a real feel for how i want my heli to feel. The first time i flew it with you, Ian, i knew the tail was way too quick for me but you were able to sort it straight away. I see now why people who are in clubs and fly regularly with other pilots learn so much more and improve so much quicker. Your confidence with the mechanical setup (including self mutterings) were inspiring to watch and has made me determined to become not a just a better pilot but a better technician.

I did feel under pressure, a little, when i took over the controls from you but was determined to prove that i was confident as a pilot without being cocky and respecting my limits. I know i can hover this heli nose in etc but am perfectly happy to stick to tail in until i can hold it abosuletly spot on.
