Last Sunday, lost orientation of my trex500. The wind carried it away and it crashed into a canal and sank to the bottom. No chance of recovery, completely gutted.

Do you know roughly where it is in the canal? Get a line and hook and dredge it. I'm sure you'll hook it.
Probably get a few shopping trolleys and plenty of other scrap as well, but I agree, I wouldn't consider it 'gone' just because it is in the canal as long as you know roughly where it went in.
That said, I'm not sure how much value there will be in what you get back if it stays in there much longer ...
Defiantly worth trying, you arnt going to find unless you look. If you can get a few friends to help too and get a system going. Sure the battery, ESC and probably servos will be dead but the rest will be fine at worst the need of a few new bearings.
Do you anyone with Piking gear if so just put a spinner on on get dredging..it's got to be worth a go especially if you know where it went in.
It might have drifted a bit with the undertow but not much.
Use some polarised glasses to help get rid of the surface glare you will spot it much easier.
If not borrow some off a mate there must be someone you know who goes fishing.

Thought about it but its quite a large area to search. Also it could have drifted a distance before it settled. I suppose the canopy might still be intact and maybe the tail blades. It was a stock 500e combi which the flybared version is cheap as chips these days so might just get another.
It made quite an impressive splash

I know it's gutting and I sympathise with the desire to get it back, but you have to ask yourself whether ANY part is worth re-using. Given the extent of the repairs involved, a re-kit would probably be a cheaper and lower-risk option.
He'll need a new heli, but surely the frame parts less the bearing and screws could at least be kept as spares. And if you have a boring Sunday with nothing to do, why not take a fishing rod and give it a go. You never know what you may find. Maybe someone dropped a 700 in there before you

That's a good positive attitude. Definitely half full.
