  • can you give me an opinion about my 12V starter battery ?

currently im using this battery and starter

the battery is fully loaded and iv measured it : 12.43 V

should be ok however when using the starter i can easily stop the starter from turning with a few fingers
so i couldnt start up my helicopter

then iv connected the starter with a car battery and its a complete difference i can barely stop the starter from turning with my hand

question 1: is it possible the battery is not ok anymore ( 8 years old )

question 2: can you recommend me a good 12V battery for using with this starter, if possible not any bigger it has to fit in my startbox

Sounds like the battery is just not capable of enough amps. I use a 4 cell LiPo with my starter and it works very well and I can even use a 3cell LiPo sometimes depending on the engine. Do you have a charger that can charge 3 or 4 cell LiPos?

feels like some answers have come to me:

no the charger is not for lipos
for my startbox i do need a 12V battery for controlpanel and fuelpump, so question is this also possible with a lipo battery?

changement does require i buy a lipobattery and new charger!

hm again it seems i do have to spend money
or find a new 12V battery with some more A

maybe something like this: huh over 5000 grams sounds heavy

I have a similar set up to you FuturaSE. I had the same problem. I just changed the battery and it all worked again. I asked the company that made the new battery what current I could charge at. They said no more than 1 amp (Pb battery) I appreciate that your old/new battery will not be the same as mine, but the charge limit is a good starting point. (I have since got a Align starter), but my original setup is still working fine.

Can you compaire your starter to one known to be good? Nitro starters are not overly powerfull so you don't damage your engine if you suffer a hydrolic lock. A 12v battery with more A won't give your starter more power unless your original 12v is on it's way out, more A just means it won't need charging as often. If you want a powerfull stater have a look at the Dynatron D-SLN16 | SULLIVAN DYNATRON STARTER (L-SLN603) The are expensive but will start anything, I've used one to start a YS 140 four stroke
