  • MRSx Question?

    Hello, my New MSRx has arrived have had a quick go....my question is:-

    Do i push the heli Li-po 'all the way into the holder' under the main gear (so the battery is effectivly in the nose)....or half way? etc...the lead that plugs into the battery looks the right length when the battery is pushed 'all the way in' and looks a little 'saggy' if the battery is 'not home' it seems a little off balance, battery is on charge for another attempt soon....i was just wondering if it matters.....i would have thought so.

    On my nano I push it all the way in ... You want it as secure as possible so it won't fly out if you crash.

      The black plastic at the back of the LIPO should slide into the holder to secure it.

          just been out in back yard...WOW did a quick circuit....not bad for a relative beginner, was a bit too gusty though, so didnt want to push my luck, i'm very happy with the heli..its very stable when in the air..always wants to slide left (on lino) before taking to the air...but, once airborne, its great fun.

          Really looking foward to some calmer weather.

          Run time was about 5 mins on 1.5mAh battery. i purchased a set of five 1.9mAh batt's and they run for roughly 6 mins, i'm dead chuffed!

          I was 'in the zone' i took off~flew it for 3 mins~and landed it....superb!! i'm hooked!
          I WOULD BE PATIENT.......IF I HAD THE TIME!!!

            Congratulations! Few tips ...
            * Slide left on take off is normal - it's the tail rotor pushing the heli left. In the air, you naturally lean the heli right slightly to compensate.
            * Bear in mind the 80% rule on LIPOs - never push them lower than 20% charge or you'll damage them. - Never run to LVC (low voltage cut-off)

              I'm surprised it flew so long on 1.9mah batteries. Must be a typo, mine are 165 and 175. 3 mins is about right if you want your batteries to last, possibly even less outside if they get cold. Make sure they are warm for best performance. Body heat is about right, but keeping them close to your skin could be a problem if you sit on them. The 80% rule is useful but doesn't take account of how much current is being taken out. At high currents you can get down to 3V and lvc very quickly. They will wear out in time though. I try to keep the volts above 3.80 at end of flight off load. On my 450 I keep the volts above 3.60 during flight, which is about the same. You can always treat the batteries differently and try some on short and some on longer flights. It would be useful as there is very little real information and a lot of guesswork with lipos.

              To get rid of the slide take off from somewhere less slippy, or takeoff from something tilted to the right a bit. The msr-x manual works quite well. Initialise on a flat level surface, then put the heli on the manual with the binder on the left. The slope is about correct for no slide as it tilts the heli about the correct amount. There is a heli that has an undercarraige that is higher on the left.

              My 130-x doesn't seem to do the slide to the left so much.

                Thanks people for the tips/advise...gold dust, i was trying and managed lift-off in my kitchen...but its too small an area for a beginner (me) still got airborne many times. i took it outside as wind was slight, my garden slopes away from my house and is grass, i placed a 18" square slab on the grass to compensate for the left slide....worked a treat, first time, straight up happy chappie.

                I had no idea about running the batteries until they are exhausted...just thought that was the 'norm' thank you its all good advise, as i'm new to this i don't (try to) fly very hard at all...just gentle...thats probably why my batteries are lasting i guess.

                Is there a 'rule of thumb' for flying times? should i get a timer or a stopwatch 'app' for my phone ect...? thanks again all :-) regards ade.

                  top tips thank you, how do i gauge my flight time correctly? is it an art?

                    Hi,

                    I'm pretty new to all this too, I push my batteries in until they stop, on my mCPx.

                    My DX6i has a built in countdown timer, you set the time against a particular model and start it when you plug the battery in - that's how I judge my flight time.

                      The DX6i and DX8 have timers built in. On the DX6i you have to start/stop it manually but on the DX8 you can set it to start a countdown when the throttle goes past a certain amount.

                        PS. Avoiding low voltage cutoff becomes ever more important when the helis are a bit bigger and don't bounce so well! ...

                          cool.....i'm using the standars 2.4htz controller you get in the 'RTF' kit....not got the disposable cash to get a DX6i (or greater) at the mo....
