  • Really Really Dumb Thread!

What is the best way to get 1S lipos or any Lipos to storage voltage without a "real" charger...I have those eflight charge only ones that dont have a display so you dont know when to stop chargeing them.

I have so far used to meathods but dont know if its correct.

    1) I start to charge and when the lights go from single flashin led to a Line of them just unplug them as this gives a partial charge and the line of leds means its nearly done so assume it must be just over the halfway point.

    2) fully charge them then discharge them via a short min maby two flight?

My personal solution is wait 3 months and youll stop caring

Storage charge are great and all but I only bother to do it with my 6s packs, the expensive ones!

I do option 1 as well... the 'nearly charged' flashing lights, although I press the Start / Stop button rather than just unplug them. Only had my mCPX a week, so can't comment on battery life doing it that way.

Another here that has stopped worrying about it, only because I normally break my heli before I get through all the LiPo's

The nearly charged flashing light, on e-flite single cell chargers is the constant voltage (4.2V) phase of the charging, so a lot higher (like 95% capacity) than a storage charge.

Personally I would bother with worrying about storage charge on those small lipos, just recharge when you get home, and you are good to go the next time. Letting their voltage drop too low (by not charging) would be my main worry.

If you want to be pedantic about it, to get to storage charge (roughly) just time how long a normal charge takes, and divide by two , and thats a rough storage voltage.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you have lots of them and aren't flying for months.

Other than that... you could fly them to their normal discharged voltage and then use a multi-meter to check voltage. That will tell you the approximate % charge. Then it should be easy to estimate the time it should take using your charger to bring it up to 45%. Charge for that amount of time, check voltage. Job done.
