I'm not arguing for one moment that it wasn't my mistake that I crashed my heli, but saying that yo don't need some thing that helps safety because we shouldn't need it is like saying we sholdn't have seat belts or airbags in cars becase we sholdn't need them - let's be honest we don't need RC helis. But personally I want model match and if Futaba doesn't have it, I used to have a Futaba Tx when I started and as well as lacking model match, it didn't have sub-trims either and at the time their smallest Rx was massive.

I'm not saying that a pre-flight check isn't a really good idea, however some of us forget things occasionally and MM wil protect us.

Yup the 14mz has a windows touch screen system, but the flight software is a separate chip thankfully.

But 2.4ghz does have many advantages over 35mhz? Smaller antenna's, more up to date radio's, no chance of someone shooting you out the sky, telemetry and other numerous one's.

As far as I know at MK Heli Club no-one has been shot down. I have seen posts about telemetry where it is seen as a waste of time. The Futaba 14SG in comparison the Spektrum DX7 is more up to date. Can't argue on antenna size as that has to do with the wave length. "and other numerous ones" is a bit of an unknown.

There was one poor soul who had a crash every weekend with his T-Rex 450 until he switched to 2.4 but I didn't actually witness any other problems with us all running 35MHz.

But if you watch it closely, the transmitter still continues to control the servos even though the screen has locked out!!! This is because the 18MZ (like the 14MZ) has dual processors - one to control the screen and one to control the signal output.

Still a fault tho, people like to pick any holes in Spektrum when ever possible so I was just pointing out that Futaba are not without there faults, we are also talking about a Tx that somebody has spent 2.5k on and there touch screen keeps locking out.

My 14Mz or my 18MZ has never locked out. Yep £2,500 is a lot of money for a tranny, but you've got to realise that most of that money goes on R&D and continuous free firmware upgrades. That 18MZ locking YouTube video was posted when the 18MZ's first came out, so hopefully the latest software won't cause any issues. I also did a Google search for "18MZ lockout" and didn't find anybody having issues on the first two Google pages.

I think you'll actually find more reports of issues on fixed wing than we get on helis, particularly those related to loss of control most likely caused by a brown-out. We tend to be a lot more aware of the power requirements on our helis and tend to have better equipment in the model compared to people with fixed wing still flying on 4.8V receiver packs.

The problems due to interference are not in doubt, they just need enough people flying DSM2 in close proximity to each other. Add in things like putting your tx on the ground and turning it on while it is shielded by your body and the ground so it can't see all the active channels and that is where the problems start and the need for DSMX was proven.

There is nothing dramatically wrong with DSM2 as long as you let the radio see the channels in use and don't regularly fly with 40 or more other people also on DSM2

Everybody needs to let their radio see the other DSM2 radios or they could choose one of your channels. I had problems indoor with just six people flying, but no problem with 12 when I made sure my tx was high up at switch on.

One video of one person with a faulty pot?

Is that it, or is there a more worrying trend out there involving multiple radios?

Genuinely curious as I own both an 8FG and a DX8.

I haven't heard of any pot issues with the DX8 recently, I'm pretty sure there is also signigicantly more DX8's than 8FG's!

The figures is one thing we will never know in this hobby. It would sure be interesting to get figures about other things as well to see a much better picture of how big any problem really is.
