  • throttle stick - do you have full power bottom or up? whats your setup

    ftb.jpg

Europe/Netherlands - Im using Mod 2 throttle left when my throttle stick is bottom / full power
somehow it feels like most are using the other way up / full power

    whats your setup?

i would hazard a guess that 99% would have bottom=no power top=full power unless using idle up so x%across the curve

As above, in normal mode full throttle = top stick.

My thought would be that it would be better switch back to what is considered a standard setup of low stick= low throttle and high stick= high throttle. I have never heard of anyone flying with it reversed and if you're just learning you're going to make things harder by using a non standard arrangement because everyone else will be used to it the other way and will not be able to help you with your setup, no one else will be able to use your TX etc. I'm sure there are other potential issues as well because the TX will be designed with the common standard for throttle stick that matches with the throttle and pitch curves, everything will have to be upside down in the programming etc.

If you were already an advanced flyer with it like that then it might be a different story.

same as above, allthough if you are starting out, inverted flight when you come to it should be a doddle....change if you can

                +1 to trillians message.

Your whole setup will be alien to anyone who you seek help from. No-one will want to check over your setup. All bind and fly instructions will need to be reversed. Its counter intuitive (push the stick up and the heli goes down).

Its potentially dangerous, as if someone cant find your throttle hold switch, their next step would be to flick into normal mode and lower the throttle stick.

You will never be able to use anyone elses transmitter, nor they yours...

the list just goes on and on.

Don't worry to much - when I started out years ago I thought that stick back = full power seemed natural.
But the rest of the world persuaded me to change my thinking!!

I met an eastern european chap once who was flying a plane in a park and got chatting to him. He was completely self taught and flew mode 2, but with the elevator back-to-front, so stick forwards for up, stick back for down. His logic was simple - push the stick up to go up, and pull it down to go down. He flew pretty well too.

Change if you can, it will feel so strange but stick with it, I can't even imagine how weird that would feel, as I'm sure you are with changing directions

There is a Plank instructor at a club near us and he flys a sort of Mode 1 with the throttle stick down for high. The worst thing is he teaches the newcomers that way.

Does it matter so long as you can fly the heli/plank?

It makes no difference if you are a competant pilot, but if you are not at the point where you fly alone, then no one apart from another pilot who knows how to fly with throttle reversed can help you.

At our club if you are not a "A" certified pilot, you should have an "A" or better stand with you. Its a bit hard to find a pilot to assist if you dont have the same set up. Its bad enough where pilots fly mode one or mode two.
