  • Whats with heli sizes?

Maybe a stupid question but what is the standard, if any for naming heli sizes?
My "Trex 500" has 425mm blades.
The new Goblin 500 has 500 mm blades.
Nitros seem to be labled in motor sizes??? 30 / 50 / 90 etc. But have never owned a nitro

Doesn't seem to be any consistency in the process, which I guess is fairly consistent for this hobby.

Don't really care was just bugging me.

    Cheers

Normally with electircs its down to motor or blade size but as different manufactures use different methods There is no standard lol....

The standard is, everyone makes up their own sizing just to confuse customers!

My thoughts on Trex is that it is the distance from the centre of main shaft to tip of blade. Trex 500 has 425mm blades, but include the distance to centre of mainshaft and it is nearer 500mm.

Mikado and SAB do it on actual blade size.

Everyone else does it on "Equivalent brushed motor size" up to 500 size, when it then changes to blade size (a 500 uses 425mm blades, a 550 uses 550, a 600 is 600 and a 700 in 690 or 710)

Nitros are marked by engine size. A 30 is a 550 size ish, a 50 is 600 size and a 90 is 700 size. There is some interchangeable ness in this though with regard to what engine is fitted etc.

Yeah, what has become fairly consistent beased on blade sizes, for 600, 700, 800 is now getting somewhat obscured by new sizes that, as far as I can tell, are just arbitrary attempts to describe something in between. So now we have a 630, 750 (just the Alees so far I think) and 770. But go try to find a pair of 750mm or 770mm blades, I sure haven't seen them yet.
