'Spektrum debuts Quick Connect to address voltage drop concerns
Posted on Wednesday, December 31, 1969 at 4:00 PM by AaronS
At the AMA Convention here in Ontario last weekend, Spektrum announced they have a new feature called Quick Connect, which will address voltage drop concerns. Current Spektrum systems will take up to several seconds to reconnect after a low voltage spike below 3.5 volts. With Quick Connect, the receiver reconnects virtually instantly as soon as the voltage recovers. This feature can already be found in the JR 921 which comes with the X9303. The new AR 9100 will include Quick Connect, and eventually, all Spektrum DSM2 products will be updated with Quick Connect.'

Thought it might be of interest.

Dare I ask but why does it have to reset when it get to 3.5v, what would be the resulting effect if the reset wasn't in place and the v dropped below this. For those like me who have an inferior system I feel like a FOC replacement should be due to existing systems. I ran my Mini Titan using G3 with my 14MZ and never once hit a glitch and no resetting going on.
            Cheers

Surprised that such a safety issue hasn't had a recall issued, not as simple as a firmware flash I take it...
In many other industries the products would've been pulled back.

Out of the 4 AR9000's I have, only one still works. AR7000's seem to be a lot better. I've decided to give the Futaba FASST 12FG a try so that I don't have to sit at the field switching my heli on and off until it locks (sometimes it never does)...Never had a low voltage reset yet (have had a high one tho ).

IMO the old rx's shouldn't be replaced FOC. This isn't a problem with the receivers. Spektrum are choosing to build in a functionality to cope with less than perfect power sources that people are choosing to use these days, not to overcome a defect in their gear. You bought the rx without Quick Connect therefore it was sold as advertised...If they replaced the units FOC the manufacturers would be scared to update the products as new technologies and ideas arrive for fear of the financial costs involved in replacing everything...

I understand what your saying but I don't remember reading any lit that say's oh by the way if the voltage get's below 3.5v when flying kiss goodbye to your heli. If I read something like this I would have stayed away from Spektrum until it was resolved and a suitable safe solution i.e. not reset in the event of being in the air.

My Dell laptop didn't say "Won't catch fire!" on the box, yet Dell still recalled the battery and gave me a new one.

Stuart it also doesn't say on PCM rx that if the voltage goes below 3V kiss goodbye to your heli......that is around the reset voltage for those systems.
It just so happens that Spektrum and FAAST rx have a higher power processor in them than PCM and therefore it requires 0.5V more to run, below this and the processor can't cope.

because their battery was faulty surely! spektrums problems stem from user short comings. if you supplied the battery for your lappy would they be as accomodating?

But we could argue the Spektrum gear is faulty too...

TBH it doesn't concern me greatly as I doubt this problem will affect me & can see both sides of the story, but Spektrum clearly know they released a product that was a little bit naughty.

I'll only state this one more time but for everyone pointing a finger at spektrum and saying it's their problem...... IT ISN'T.
The problem lies with whatever component is providing the voltage. Saying spektrum should still work at 3.5V is ridiculous, that's pretty much a flat 4 cell pack. Personally I think it's great that spektrum are reacting to improve their technology to cope with the short comings of other manufacturers equipment.
