My 550 is taking longer because I'm only getting a couple hours here and there, but next couple of weeks I plan to have it done
my first 500 build was a bit, err missed a part here, err missed locktide there, err missed another part here ... you get it, so it took like 14-16hrs to complete including setup ..

the 550 just days ago took 6hrs and another 45 minutes to setup and that included all the shiny work ... all I say is it will improve, once you have build one you will remember where certain parts are - as in which bag - so you dont look for them where they should be, you know how which parts should come together (servos, plates, rubbers, bronze tubes etc) and so on and so forth ... I think the only things I have checked when building the 550 lately was which screws to be used the rest was pretty much given from previous builds or rebuilds ...

Time spent now will pay dividends in the future. spend time to ensure that the gear mesh is correct etc... but most of all enjoy it!!!
Also, don't over-do the thread lock. It's needs to be there - but just a small coating on the end of the screw thread. +1 on not over-tightening either - the Align bolts really do strip all too easily

Take your time! Enjoy the build, it's part of the hobby if it takes you weeks then it takes you weeks. You will learn lots about your by heli carefully putting it together, not to mention gain some reassurance that everything is done properly. There is no rush, then afterwards you will wonder what the fuss was about (and feel a great sense of achievement).

the hard part for me was the set up! but i let a club member set it up for me and showed me what to do! I still dont have a clue but im getting there!

+1 on the over tightening, i learnt that the hard way on my first build which was a 500. i have had to gind a slot in most of them so i can undo them with a screwdriver!

It may well take more than a few hours if it's your first build - don't rush it, and you'll learn more about the heli than the sum of its parts, as it were. I'd second the helifreak build videos too - loads of really useful little titbits of information at every step.

I'd say take a little look at youtube videos of how to best apply threadlock too - sounds daft, but if you do get it wrong, you'll pay for it later.

                  Most importantly, enjoy the build!

Not daft at all and I appreciate the suggestion - I shall do that. I have used threadlock before but any advice on what to do is always appreciated. I shall check the vids out tomorrow.

I put my 600e together over 3 night shifts, working when I had spare time.

Probably about 6 hours work, and that was just the start of it. The setup and careful planning of what electronics you are going to put where e,t,c, takes the time.

Just noticed your blog so I will get reading it later. Well done on the build I see you like photography and Solar Panels? ( I fit them )

Seems we may have some things in common

Build has come to a bit of a halt at the moment. Family came to stay for the weekend DOH!

So far I have the main frame and head assemply completed. The cyclic servos are installed and my next task is installing the tail assemply and torque tube assemblies.

More in the blog when I manage to do some more... possibly tomorrow.
