  • It has arrived! Now I am scared!

Having only ordered my Align Trex 450 Pro DFC on Friday it arrived today and I rather embarrased myself with the courier...

I was expecting the box to be a lot bigger. I don't know why because I knew it was a kit but nevertheless I didn't expect the box to so small. I asked the courier to wait while I opened the box and checked that all the items on the delivery note were included. Much to my surprise they were!

Now I have got it and opened it up I am a little bit scared that I have bitten off a little more than I can chew. Not regarding flying... No, it is the building of it that now makes me a little nervous. The instructions are about as good (read bad!) as I was expecting but having never built a heli from kit before it seems quite a challenge.

I am sure I can do it but looking at all the bits it seems like it may take a lot longer than I had imagined.

I am doing an Unboxing video so watch this space.

It'll be like painting by numbers, the manual is split into sections be sure to have the tools needed & digest the manual few times & away you go.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

It's easy just take take your time. I dry run first then locktight. Don't forget to disassemble and reassemble factory assembled parts. Install servo arms balls before servos in frames. Enjoy!

Highly recommend you watch these videos before building. Not all of it will be relevant to your version of the heli but probably 90% of it will be useful. You'll probably have to register on the Helifreak forum to watch them but that's no bad thing as it's another excellent forum for info/opinions/views/etc.:

Trex 450 Pro build videos - HeliFreak

A search of this forum, Helifreak and Youtube will most likely bring up some build or advice videos regarding the DFC head and mechanical/electronics setup which will be the main difference.

            Silly Me!!! LOL!!

Having looked at it I think I over-reacted a little especially as there are videos and build threads on various forums so I am sure it will all come out int he wash but it is a bit of a daunting prospect the first time.

I already plan to disassemble the bits that come assembled and make sure loctite is used in all metal to metal fastenings. I have deliberately got a kit to allow me to experience building and so I know it will be enjoyable... I just won't be maidening next weekend!

How long would it take you to build a 450 heli kit like this?

            Thanks.

You can build in a couple hours....it's the setting up that takes the time.

Ah yes, that makes sense. Rightly or wrongly, I suppose I considered the initial set up and everything up to the first flight as part of the build

I shall be blogging how I get on so perhaps I am just showing my newbieness

I'd say 2 hours was pushing it for a first build... as has been said before, you want to make sure everything is correct. Loctite all metal on metal, don't over-tighten anything... and rebuild everything that's factory built. Time spent now will pay dividends in the future. spend time to ensure that the gear mesh is correct etc... but most of all enjoy it!!!

Thanks for that. I shall start the build tomorrow and report back. I will make sure I enjoy it... thanks. It isn't stressing me out in spite of my previous posts. I am just very excited!

Take your time and enjoy the build fella, I was gutted when I built my 450 that it was over so quickly, I was loving it

My 550 is taking longer because I'm only getting a couple hours here and there, but next couple of weeks I plan to have it done
