  • Maidened my Blade 450X

I joined Newton Abbot Heli Club today and took along my brand new Blade 450X.

Chris Newby, who is simply a stunningly talented 3D flyer, checked it over and flew it for the first time. He didn't spare the horses and he did some fantastic 3D stuff straight out of the box. Then my turn and so with a fresh battery and my heart in my mouth I had a go. I did OK. I just hovered, moved a bit left and right and landed a couple of times and all was well. It felt beautifully smooth and crisp when compared to the MCPX and I am very encouraged.

So what I need now is lots of practice to get my flying of the 450X up to the same standard as it is with my MCPX and from today's experience that shouldn't take too long... I hope!

The guys at NAHC were excellent today and made me feel very welcome. My thanks go to them. Mind you, I thought my 450 felt huge after the MCPX, which of course it is, but next to their 600s and 700s it is just a tiddler!

Well done Paul! Glad to see you've bitten the bullet and got that 450x out and about. I had a hoot with mine today! I know exactly how you feel. When I first got my 450s, they felt huge to me - despite seeing them next to everyone else's 600s and 700s. Just take it easy - go at your own pace and you'll love it. Now I've got a 500, and starting to feel more comfortable with that, the 450x is starting to feel less intimidating to me, and I'm starting to fly it more like I fly my mcpx and 130x.

Well done mate, club flying will bring you on in bundles. The guys at the clubs always help and some get more enjoyment watching the smile in a new pilots face just after a good landing.

        Thanks Stu and Tom,

What I can't get over is that it doesn't sound on paper that there is much of a difference in size between a 450 and a 500 or 550 but there really is... big difference in repair costs too from what I understand let alone the huge battery costs initially if electric.
