  • clutch adjustment

    Hi, another plea for help.

If never had issues with clutches 'biting' too soon before.

With my Knight, from the get go, the clutch is engaging almost immediately, making starting and spooling up not the safest or nicest thing to look at....

Its the standard clutch, and the standard liner, and they are fitted correctly.

So... how do I make it less 'bitey'?..

    Thanks

    James

Sand the lining down a bit, easiest with dremel

      Before sanding down, make sure the engine and clutch bell are in line and clutch is correct height in bell housing;
If ok to save taking out and sanding down, Hold the head and run the engine till the clutch grabs, run for a short while to
bed the clutch in, make sure not to burn the clutch out.

If everything is correct I would be inclined to adjust the clutch arms a little bit with some feeler gauges as opposed to wearing the liner

Did you glue the liner in yourself

The liner was (AFAIK) factory fitted.

So that would be 'clamping' the arms closed a bit more?...

Yes ever so slightly. Trying to wear the liner down is not a good idea due to the possibility of causing uneven wear however if it is catching slightly atm I would be inclined to just leave it a bit longer to bed in however if you feel enough time has passed I would adjust the arms

You can do as Tripler suggested but if it is too catchy you might damage the liner

              clutch adjustment

Use a Raptor 30/50 clutch, they are a direct fit and better quality. Always used them in my K3D with no problems.

Start the engine, get a clubmate to get hold of the heli especially the tail boom, get another to grab the head and push the throttle stick and burn some off, it will stink a bit but the wear will be even. I wouldn't attempt to alter the clutch wings at all as they are heat treated in order to give the spring action for the leaves you are looking for. Far too easy to put a crack in it

Ah, I did this accidentally this morning by restarting in IU2

Probably needs a bit longer then

I have never really known how to set this 100%. Sometimes I leave the washer that comes with the under the fan in my Rappy, sometimes not

The clutches seem to vary a lot though and you could end up with one grabbing more. I've had some that don't even grip! Currently tried 3 in my "lemon" heli; one is fine, one is not contacting and one is grabbing.
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

Why simplify when it is so much simpler to complicate.
