  • Making a T-Rex float

Has anybody been successful making a T-Rex float? e.g. adding foam to the skids, or something like that? Any ideas, pictures or experience would be appreciated.

I seem to like flying over rivers and streams, but I'm worried about what would happen if I crash over water, especially to the electronics.

      Have a look here Heli-Max Floats and here Heli-Max .30 - 500 - 550 Size Floats HMXE2000
They should give a nice cushioned landing aswell
      How big is your heli?

if you crash, rather than land, foam anywhere isnt really going to help you, espcially on the skids, as they will float and then head will sink. All your electronics will be flooded.

It might be possible to fill the spare space in the canopy with a very bouyant foam, in the hope that it would help you find it.

            Making a T-Rex float

If you want to scream around over water get a boat IMO

At least if a Heli hits dirt it's usually salvageable, water not so much and that's if you're lucky enough to find it

It's perfectly possible to waterproof your electronics..an o-ring around the servo output shaft and then spray seal the rest, condom over r/x and esc (assuming temp not too high) after plenty hotmelt in any holes/gaps etc on the heatshrinks

That video of the heli over the swimming pool is actually quite reassuring; he had to pretty much slam it into the water to get it to crash.

My heli is a T-Rex 450 at the moment, but I'll be getting a bigger one shortly with on-board video.

Those floats PKNEX linked to look good, wonder if they will fit a 450 OK?
