  • Trex 500e conversion to DFC - Done

I converted my Trex 500e to DFC head with Beast x last night... I must admit, I did expect there to be a little more documentation seeing as it was a conversion kit! Using my superior intellect (cough) I did manage to do the conversion and set up the beast x... First hover this morning and after realising the left/right pitch was wrong, I reversed the servo direction and all is well... Rock solid. Looks better too!!!

Well there she is, looking sleek and sexy with the new head, I'm thinking custom colour scheme next, but not very good at that sort of thing!! Any ideas?

Something in yellow & orange always worked for me.
These 500's are mid sized but still get small very quickly when flying away from yourself.
A high visibility scheme like yellow orange & red will be easier to track round the sky.
lime / neon greens also show up well.

I bought from align-trex.co.uk the following:
          500DFC Main Rotor Head Upgrade Set H50181 - Align T-Rex Spares align trex 500E Pro - ALIGN-TREX.co.uk
500PRO Metal Main Rotor Holder H50150 - Flybarless kits and parts 500 DFC parts - ALIGN-TREX.co.uk
          500FL Linkage Ball H50129 - Align T-Rex Spares align trex 500 - ALIGN-TREX.co.uk
          total was £62.64.

You may also need main shaft shims, because you wont use the collar any more, you keep the same swash, but remove all 4 balls and use 2 new ones, which are slightly larger.

I'm hoping to convert my trex 450 this weekend to beastx with dfc head. Hope the unit is easy to setup as it sounds!

Paz, I've had no experience with Beast X at all and I managed to set it up!! Just read the instructions a few times and make sure you're familiar with the process. The hardest part is levelling the swash and getting the blades to 0 degrees pitch, for me it was a pain... I'd get the swash level and the pitch would be wrong... not sure apart from trial and error how you do this easily!

Oh and while I remember, you'll probably have to move the cyclic linkages one hole in on the servo arms and reduce their length by 3mm... I certainly had to!!!

Thanks for the advise. How did you work out you have to move the cyclic linkage hole in?

Take a look at Fusuno.com. Personally, I like the "Infinite fire" scheme ...

On the 500e the set up uses the forth hole out on the servo horn... while I was attempting to set up the Beast X for swashplate cyclic adjustment the unit wouldn't accept the range of servo movement (too small movement due to servo horn length) and the instructions suggested moving the linkage in a hole... which worked fine. Don't forget to reduce the linkage length as well. Mine were 22mm between the plastic parts of the ball joints and I reduced them to 19mm, and that worked a treat.

Fast-lad stock them in the UK - as do Hobby Hangar I think. Saves the time and shipping costs from Vietnam (where Fusuno are based). But, if you do buy direct from Fusuno, you can order pretty much any design you like, have your name put on it, etc. etc.
