  • head holding are rates mode

hi people i have a quick question as playing on the Sim trying to do fast forward erm ? hurricanes i cart do them with head holding switched on but there easy as pie with head holding off now Ive always flown with head holding on and never try ed to switch it between the 2 in flight
so my question is dose any1 switch gyro modes while flying to get different things done and if so why is it a secrete

and if so what other moves are essayer to do with rates mode

nope, just use heading hold you need to learn to steer the rudder no secrets, just practice

Nothing wrong with using rate mode if you want. It will be difficult switching modes if you want to link two moves.

Re: head holding are rates mode

I doubt much research has gone on by phoenix into getting rate mode correct for 3d flying. I guess it's been setup for scale and mild sport. You may find things ate different at the field.

It depends on the sensitivity that you use for rate mode, and for hold mode. Different gyros behave differently as well and give up at different points. Phoenix gives a reasonable simulation of the difference on my 450 with a Futaba 401. It would be nice to be able to put the gyro sense values in, but we would need the servo type, throw settings and servo arm length.

I'm not sure what happens on some smaller helis like the mcx and msr where we seem to have rate mode gyros that work as heading mode. The smaller helis are not modelled well on Phoenix, which is a shame as that is probably what most new users want.

When I learnt originally back in 1980 I only had one model and could only fly one model. Flying different models is much better and having the sim different from the real thing does teach you to adjust to different models.

By the time you know what you're doing you'll be out of date and have to start again. So everybody is learning all the time. There isn't that much that you have to know though, you can just follow what others are doing. Fixing helis isn't so difficult, but finding which bit is really causing the problem is very tricky and often more by luck than judgement. It does take a lot of practice and bloody mindedness though.
