My advice practice the top hat its not that easy by a mile.

it stopped me twice from getting my 'B'

Also practice hovering skids at head height left and right and slow flying left and right nice and level... it helps with top hat and hovering stuff is done at skids eye level.

The Stall turns remember to turn the tail away from the flight line and make sure your going straight back down vertical. I got nice stall turns from the Examiner for them

      Yep,

Top hat is a hard one to crack. Both ways aswell because on the day you don't know which way the wind will come from.

The more time you put into your 'b' test, the more benifits you will recieve once you have obtained it.

The fig 8 is composed of two circles and at the cross over point, the model must be flying straight towards you. Do not fly this like a lazy 8. I heard they were doing away with the hovering M. When I did mine, the mainshaft had to be in line with my shoulder.

Also remember to do your stall turns away from the flight line. That way, you will do one to the left and one to the right.

Top hat forms the (basic) shape of a top hat.
            1. Hover out to one side.
            2. Move about 5 metres steadily towards the centre point - this will still be to one side by about 5 metres. Hover again.
            3. Climb vertically about 4 metres and hover again.
            4. Move across 10 metres and hover again. You are now approx 5 metres to the other side of where you started.
            5. Descend about 4 metres and hover again.
            6. Move across about 5 metres and hover.

Illustration on page 11 of the current (out of date now) PDF on the BMFA website.
            Cheers,
            Rob

When B certs were being carried out at MK last summer the examiner wanted the model flying away from you at the cross-over in the figure of 8. This is for safety reasons. If the model stops responding it isn't headed for your head!!

Yes the "M" might be replaced with a hover manoeuver tail in for 5-10 secs then side on, nose in, side on now facing the other direction and then back to tail in.

The F3C guys in the BMFA want to keep the M but others beleive that with the helicopter level with you on the flight line it could be very easy to end up behind you and all sorts of trouble may ensue.

Also read the book over and over again unless you have a photographic memory. There is alot of stuff that the examiner can choose to ask questions on when it comes to the B cert.
