Its been a while since i flew my 450 in anger, and when flew it it was rubbish. I thought my crappy cheap packs left fully charged on the shelf too long were the problem. So I bought one optipower 3S2100 to try. But it was still pants.
Took a closer look.
Seems the ESC was rubbing on the motor can. Without that it was a bit better, but went down hill during the flight. Motor(scorpion -6) was strangely stiff when it was warm so I ordered a bearing set.
Took it apart and found the top bearing had fretted a section on the shaft so ordered a new shaft.
While it was in bits I looked at the belt - all the teeth were saw tooth shaped and slipped easily. Checked the tail shaft plastic pulley that has been in there 5 years and that was all rounded, checked the front belt pulley and it was the same story - so thats why the tail didn't hold!
With those new pulleys and belt (that were already in my spares box) the tail drive was so much better it was unbeleivable!
With the new optipower pack and all the worn parts chaged this thing is back to its old self - loads of power and it flies like a demented wasp - but compared to my beastx fltybarless 500 and 600n its a bit wayward needing lots of aileron correction when you hit the elevator.
So I just checked out the cost of a DFC head and beastX and checked out my spare bits for what I might sell them for on ebay. Maybe I can go flybarless for about £50 if ebay is kind to me...
So now I will send £50 to standup to cancer.
What the hell difference will a 450 heli that flies a bit better make to my life for gods sake!
I'll upgrade the 450 next spring
