  • 130X windy landing tip.

For those not in the know:

If you can find a nice take-off spot in a field it may not follow that you can land in a nice spot (keeping tail clear of grass etc). Real windy and fine control out of the question but tearing up the sky isn't. Here's a landing tip.

Get the 130X to about 3 feet off the ground and hit Throttle Hold. Your heli will float down to the ground. Do NOT reduce pitch/throttle stick position. You need the lift to die down as the motor dies down. Do not use throttle stick only to do this as you lose lift immediately you pull the stick down and you'll smack into the ground.

So, 3 feet. Steady hover over nice grassy bit. Throttle Hold. Heli floats down. By the time it is a few inches from the ground the blades have stopped.

Hi Vikki can you not just alter the pitch curve so you don't introduce too much negative when landing,I don't have a 130 so I don't know what's adjustable.

It's just a nice little landing tip. Uncomplicated.

It came about because I fly Limpy in quite windy conditions (thinking about it I first did this with an mCPx) and a controlled landing was tricky what with him bobbing up and down all over the shop. 3-4 feet, TH, they just float down. Doesn't matter if they tip over since the blades have stopped by then. Would not do this with anything bigger

Edited OP for better clarity. Tip is for those conditions where landing under power is too risky. Hey, I fly Limpy in horrible winds and a nice powered landing isn't really an option but dumping him in a controlled fashion is

I've also started doing as Vikki suggests There is quite a bit of lift left in the little heli on landings although not exactly auto landings.
Vikki - have you been tempted with the MicroHeli Auto Rotation Hub? I've heard it doesn't really work that well, but have been tempted.

Its the same deal with the nano outside... The ground effect makes landing very difficult unless there is no wind at all.

I now float 'mine' down with throttle hold from about a foot of the ground.

Im going to have to give it back to its rightful owner this week, will be sad, have had about 20 batteries through it already.

Just grab the skids from in front of you no need to land.

                        85-90% throttle.

I tried grabbing the skids once. Never again. A 130X bites hard. My finger bled for ages and it took a week and a half to heal. Do NOT try to grab your 130X's skids. One slip and you'll be surprised how much blood a finger contains

Not been tempted by auto-rotate gear.

It was a sudden drop in wind. Caused Limpy to drop and dumped the rotor right on my finger tip. It didn't half hurt. I was lucky it was a straight in cut and not an across the tip cut (costing me the tip of me digit).

if you're going to catch it, any of you, be careful, please
