  • Moving Throttle hold switch

    I fly using a DX8

The throttle hold is on the far right back corner, and I dont have the biggest hands.

Im thinking about moving the switch (internally, not just switch assignments) to one of the dual rate switches on the front, so I can have very comfortable control of the cyclic (I pinch) but still flick throttle hold when things arnt going so well, or even just to do an auto. At the moment im finding that to flick throttle hold im having to really reach, and in doing so put in unwanted cyclic input.

Here is a photo of how I want to switch:

Any views?... why would this be a bad idea (i've learnt to use throttle hold but its not quite a reflex yet, I still have to think to use it so it shouldnt be too hard to change my practice)....

    Thanks

    James

Take the back off and have a look. If they are individual switches, it will be a breeze. Some switches though share a common PCB under them, so then it is not possible.

Either that, or buy a Futaba 8FG, you can assign any switch to any function

They are seperate switches, but one lead will need to be extended.

If I simply assign it to the Ail D/R switch (which I can) its the wrong way up for how I want it to work. I want to flick it away into throttle hold, not pull it towards me (its a slower movement)

You can assign it to that very switch, I use the 1 in front of the original.

          Rotate the switch.

Yes, but then it will be the wrong way round for all my planks

I know what you mean. I have a nice big switch lever (st modes) where you want your TH to go on my JR but even there I find myself pulling and stretching to operate it. My TH is far left......it catches everything and is hard to reach. It begs the question as to why they are where they are and I bet it is to do with plank flying or the days before 3D.

Is it not just a matter of physically swapping the switches over? Often the wires to them are a bit short though.
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

When the blue light is flashing I am kidding.

Why simplify when it is so much simpler to complicate.

Hi James, I fly 'pinch' and found it hard to reach the standard throttle hold position (even with fairly large hands).

I changed to (with help from Rob (dogcow!) to the Aux 2/Gox switch - nice and big and my middle finger can rest against it ready to push at a moments notice.

it is a nice big switch and doesn't require a lot of effort to push (compared to std hold switch) - so although still getting used to it I find it is a much better position for me.

To change to this simple go into the setup menu (hold the roller and power on), then in the F-mode menu change Hold: to Gov.

                works for me

                J

I did contemplate this, but again, for me, it works in the wrong direction (pull down for hold)

In the end I have bought the bullet and swapped the ail d/r for the throttle hold manually. There is just enough wiring on each to do this provided you hinge the case from the SD card side only.

I use a tray, and pinch, so im probably in the minority, but I do wish all manufacturers would be more considerate where they put their throttle hold. On my FF8 its a long way away too

Well will see how this goes, now all I have to do it flick my index finger up from the pinch, and throttle hold is commenced

You can assign it to the aileron switch if you don't use the DR on heli's?

Wow, what a difference... Autos are smooth from the start, and easier to bail out of....... will see how things go tomorrow at the field with it this way.

I think the throttle hold switch should be left that way on every tx just incase something goes wrong then everyone can click that switch
