  • Battery Upgrade

    Hi all,

I want some advice on a battery upgrade.

I have an axion excell 200 heli, it runs on a 3.7 lipo 150mah @ 25c. The battery life is around 4min not great.

I want to upgrade to get longer flight time, would a 3.7 lipo with a mah of 300 @15-40c work?

    Advice appreciated

    Many Thanks

You do need to consider size, weight and CoG as well.

The odds are that a battery with twice the capacity is going to be larger and heavier than your current battery and may not even fit in the heli.

Even if it does fit you may find that the weight increase affects performance and alters the CoG so it does not fly as it should.

Also consider that carrying the extra weight will take more power out of the pack so doubling the capacity will not double the flight time.

that's pretty big difference, you have to try to know it. I recently upgraded my son's MicroTwister from some 150mA to 240mA (or so, don't rememeber exactly) but had real trouble fitting it under the canopy. The CoG does not seem to have suffered greatly, it would seem these tiny coaxial helis are immune to it

The small ones usually manage to get the battery directly under the main shaft or very close to it so the weight changes mostly end up neutral from a CoG perspective as long as you can get it into the same position.

Leave it hanging out the back or front of the mount and you may find it a different experience

Personally I would be happy with anything delivering 4mins + with this sort of heli, extending flight time also runs the risk of overheating the motors so I'd be inclined to stay closer to the stock battery capacity. Maybe increase a little if you can get one to fit, but doubling seems a bit of a step too far.

Don't forget to let it cool down.
