  • weird noise main gear or motor, vid attached?

I have a vibration on my logo, have narrowed it down to either the motor or main gear, i have changed the main shaft bearings, motor bearings are also new, as is the main gear, where is this noise coming from? could it be the motor has finally had enough?
    Whats you thoughts? any solutions?

    Hi Ross
Run your model with the vibration analysis on,it is a very usefull tool for tracking down vibration.I had a straing noise on my logo, ran it with the vibration analysis on and it showed a spike around 20,000 rpm turned our to be a motor bearing hope this help regards Noel

It sounds as if something is catching on something but cant see anything and its sounds very light if that makes sense.

Back the motor of the pinion and see if it does it then if not you know is the main gear or at least something else.

Will try the vibration analyzer Noel, but dont understand what the figures mean exactly.
Ben i have backed the motor of and span it up, the noise is not there so i'm guessing it has to be a main gear issue, but on inspection it looks good, could things change under load, like motor bearings? mainshaft bearings etc, or could it just be a bad gear?

Do you have all the spacers in the correct place?

          Does it need anymore??

When you say spacers, i assume you mean shims, but yes i have one above the tail belt pully, then one in between the belt pully and the main gear then a .2mm one below, have about .2mm float on the main gear, the pinion is mesh correctly, tried it with no backlash, all the way up to very loose backlash, all the same result.

could be your pinion is worn, stu had this on his after over 100 flights, not sure if he had a noise but it was stripping main gears, changed the pinion and problem went away

James this is the 500se so its well over 250 flights now i would guess, plus it had that crash at SWRCH flyin, so could have damaged the pinion, will change.

Have you checked that the motor shaft is running true, might of been damaged as it was a big impact

Don't discount the oneway bearing too!! Or just throw the heli in a bin and get another 700

Checked the motor shaft James, it looks good but will change just in case, changed the oneway graham, I think it must be main gear or pinion but we will see.

defo a good call + the belt after a crash could it of stretched in on spot a bit , riding up on & off the tail & main drive also one way slipping in the hub itself ,

I have just used the analyzer and the vibrations are coming from around 19500rpm to 22000rpm spikes, so i'm guessing its motor somewhere or main gear/pinion as thought.
