  • Cleaning a canopy

My used Rappy 30 came with a plain white canopy and a few scuffs so I went very silly and bought one of these for it.
I know I know, what a waste of pocket money.

I won't be sticking it on, I have someone lined up for that but I want to clean the canopy first and have the usual suspects for that like petrol, paraffin, white spirit, meth amp.................er spirits, and cellulose thinners. Do we have any suggestions for the best results?

I used to use fairy liquid on my rc car body's. They were polycarbonate though. Fairy liquid worked great on those though, paint stuck really well.

Nail polish remover, I have some of that. I was a bit dubious though in case, as you say, I overdid it.

nowadays nail polish remover dosent contain acetone, unless you buy it from poundland i guess.

I'd use IPA. Iso Propyl Alcohol, and water mixed 50/50.
Acetone softens a lot of plastics, and nail polish remover contains greasy stuff to moisten your skin.
Some grub will not dissolve in IPA but will in water or a mix.

Unfortunately I don't have any of that.

And it has "Conditioners" in it so may leave a residue

It's surprising how much nitro sticks.

Well, in the good old days you could get it from your your local chemist, but now I think you can get an aerosol from RS components , Farnell etc.
It's good stuff for dissolving slime without attacking plastics.

Wow a lot of harsh unecessary chemicals being recommended....fairy works very well as its a degreaser but must be dried with a clean cloth or something....if there are left over residues ie sticker glue use some auto panel wipe its tends motto melt anything but can remove glues easily whilst doing a perfect job of removing and grease etc its used in the body shop industry and is generally available at most motor discount stores.
