  • Big thanks to Fast Lad

Hi all. I BOUGHT a Gaui x7 from Fast Lad about a month ago. After a few hovering flights easing the packs in it quickly became apparent that the auto bearing included in the kit does NOT work!!!! It kept slipping and lead to 2 forced auto's. Went back to Fast Lad with it and they swapped it out for me for the strengthened upgrade no questions asked which i thought was fantastic. The upgrade is £100, so i nearly was forced to spend that on top of the price of the kit which had in it the faulty (or just plain useless) original auto bearing. So massive thanks to Fast Lad for being so easy about the issue.

So in conclusion... If you get an x7 and plan to use anything other than the baby steps 10 tooth pinion thats included you WILL need to strengthened auto bearing upgrade. I am using 12 tooth and running 2150 with the standard 500kv motor. It might work if you are running low HS and not asking too much of your machine on 10 tooth pinion. But Gaui should say that if you want to run different pinions to get a decent HS (i hate low head speeds) then you have to have the upgrade. Or alternatively it should be included in all the kits.

So anyway, thanks to Fast Lad for their fantastic service as always

Out of interest Adam, what HS are you running? I've got the 10t pinion, with a HKIII 4035-500KV motor and had a headspeed of 2200 at 75% throttle on my helijive which for a 90 I feel is more than enough, and I've since lowered it to 2100.

Even the guys in the US that give their helis some hammer are only running 2100-2200 anything else seems crazy headspeed territory

Im running it at 2150 and have been trying 2250. Both are good, but 2250 is brilliant flys just as snappy and as mental as i want it. Might seem crazy headspeed to you, but not to me. The Gaui x7 can pretty much be run at whatever hs you want

I did fly it on the 10t at 2200 and it was rubbish imo... the governer had no headroom to do its thing and the performance was not upto what my fingers are capable of really. 12t pinion is the way to go so there is enough head room for it
