Who paints their own canopies?

Just curious, since I have done 2 now, and am just starting the 3rd....

So who does this, either for fun, or so they have a unique design?..

My first two were certainly unique, but neither very good in any sense.

my old glow in the dark 450 canopy, yes it's plain but it GLOWS IN THE DARK!!!!!

I paint my canopy screens day-glo orange for orientation. Here's my 600EFL one:

Got the kit in the loft, but never had time to have a go. Maybe next year!!

I went into a local sign writers workshop and bought stacks of off cuts of his sticky back plastic for a fiver. I can now change my designs as often as I want and it solves the problems of getting paint to stick to plastic canopies such as the raptors.

Nice canopies Mista Im not going to get close to that, but interestingly I have already chosen a similar colour scheme to one of yours...

Boggy, there are two ways you can get the paint to stick - car bumper primer, or 'flashing' the plastic canopy with a blow torch. Im doing both on this next one.

I have attempted it. I painted a Robbe Milli GRP canopy from the bare white and what I wanted was a rich orange but what it ended up with is more of a pumpkin colour. So I need to see about putting something over that in a more reddish proper orange or a yellow. If I cannot paint over the existing coat then I'll just paint the windscreen area black and call it done.

I painted a plastic Hirobo canopy yellow and that came out OK but had some issues with the masking tape pulling some paint off with it :-(

Basically I find it extremely difficult and I don't have the facilities to do it properly anyway.

That way people will learn of the pitfalls of my efforts as I go

Its the Knight 3D canopy Trillian, the build is nearly finished now
