Next Heli??

Hey guys can I have a hand with choosing my next heli?

I have a trex 450 pro v2 with dfc and the tail pitch thing. I have a limited budget but reckon I could get my hands on £350. How much do you guys reckon I could get for my my current heli, an then what should I upgrade to? 500 or 550, most people I know reckon a 500 is the best all round size, but I dont know whether a 550 would just be better? and reccomendations? anyone else in the same position? anyone has been?

buy the biggest you can afford to crash. for me at the moment its a trex 500. batteries are cheaper, and so are the charging solutions.

so unless you plan on spending another £350 on a charger, id say go for a 500.

Limited budget = 500, getting a 550e + charger and PSU + a battery cost me about a grand, my last spares order was over £200.

Get the 500 cheaper in price when it comes to part and more available. 550 ain't much bigger from 500 or go for 600 if you want a big bird, I`v nearly finished building my new 500efl pro with DFC head upgrade I have just got the HC3-SX flybarless computer programme in then I am done. This is the first bigger bird from my 450 sport dfc which I sold on eBay last month. I really like the look of the 500efl pro its really good looking bird, I originally purchased the 500esp kit and sold the frame with head no electrics off on eBay and then purchased the EFL pro frame knowing that I will be upgrading to dfc, which in a way just only a little extra for an canopy, pro kits are lot more pricey when purchased as a kit.

Hi Brunty,

Either helis are a great choice, just need to pick the one which would fit your budget. With the cash from your 450 and another £350 your looking at a 500 territory once you include the cost of batteries.

I would go 500 too. I have a 500efl and it's great. Since the 550 isn't much bigger the next logical heli after the 500 appears to be the 600efl as it takes two of the same batteries you'd use on the 500. No charger upgrade and no new battery sizes. I'm moving up to 600 when ready but that will be a while yet, especially with winter coming on. Going to build up the batt collection for the 500 first.

500, it's so much more stable than the 450 it's much more fun to fly.

If really on a budget, try a GAUI 425. But I loved my 500ESP too, great middle of the road model. Pretty stable, crash costs (this is my own experience of) usually £80 if a good one, doesn't take too much boot space - mine used to live in my car

500 is always a good bet. Something bigger will reward you more in the long term but they do cost more all round. Something that's become more important for me is logistics. I take my Logo400SE everywhere and the biggest reason is that it fits in my car with out messing with the back seats. This means I can go to work, not worry about all my gear on show in the car park and when I'm done just go flying

+1 on the gaui shout £70 - £90 for the basic kit, second hand electrics and bobs your uncle. Just don't skimp on ESC and tail and you can't lose .
