    Hi Chaps and Chapesses

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and look forward to a great New Year

I've had a cracking week with the 450.

Flown every day since Saturday and have been hovering nose in nearly all week

Started on the Bell to get my bearings and then went for it with the Trex.

WOW, big thanks to whoever it was who advised that when nose in, support the disk using the cyclic.

All I can say is it works for me

    Two final points though.

    1. There has been no wind all week so this has helped.

    2. Had a major control failure and put the Trex in hard which was not the best end to the week. Bit depressed about that as I'm the first to hold my hands up if its pilot error, but from a nose in hover it simply did some major 'odd' things culminating in a serious boom strike when it hit the deck. Still, they were wooden blades and I'm thinking of upgrading to a 450s anyway.

All I need to do now is try it with the Shuttle

    Cheers Folks

Spot on Mark - Well done

That support the disc thing worked for me too and turned a major obstacle in to something a lot more manageable.

The shuttle will be easy after the little 450 - loads more stable. Go on, give it a go, you know you want to!
      Well done.
      Cheers, Lee.

I sort of hope that after the 450, the Shuttle should be a breeze (Yer right!!)

It is, the hardest part is getting over yourself to turn the thing nose in in the first place.

The surport the disc thing was told to me by our club trainer, and I'm sure there is a post from me about it somewhere on here an all.

Good news on the progress, bad news on the smash, hope its flying again soon.
-I don't crash, I just land with enthusiasm.

A couple of 600n's with stuff on them that makes them fly..
A 550 fbl with even more stuff on it to make it fly
And a Mars 470 which needs stuff putting on it to make it fly

            And a DX8 too

Basically what I did was this....

With the Nose towards you, if the Heli banks to your left, move the cyclic left as if you are placing a support under the rotating blades(disc), the Heli will then correct itself.

If the Heli moves to your right do the same only move the cyclic to the right to support the disc.

If the Heli moves towards you, move the cyclic towards you to support the front of the disc, and if it moves away from you, move the cyclic away from you.

I have to confess that I did practise with the Bell 47 in the garden and held a nose in hover for a complete battery.

The 450 was totally different and is a tricky little bugger anyway so made good practise.

Cheers Jamez, I think the damge is quite bad, I havent looked too closely yet. How is your EVO, still in intensive care?

              Cheers

                When flying nose in...
The blades going around whilst the heli is airbourne is commonly refered to as the disc. Simplistically, if you were to see the right hand side of the "disc " drop slightly you can "support" it by moving the tx cyclic stick to the right also.

To help you visulise this, imagine the right tx stick is a clock face with forward being 12, back to you being 6, right being 3 o'clock etc. Now imagine the rotor disc of the heli in the same way (don't forget we are hovering nose in) with the furthest part of the heli as 12, the closest part is 6, the bit that is to your right is 3 etc.
So... if the part of the disc that drops slightly is at 4 then move the tx stick to the same position - i.e. 4 oclock.
                I hope that helps!
                Cheers, Lee.

Once you get over the "support the disc" bit, it can become easier to put the heli on the ground already in the nose in position and take off from there. As soon as the heli is light on it's skids you are "flying" it afterall.
                  Good luck!
                  Cheers, Lee.

I fly around my bad spots and i guess if u where to watch me fly u'd think i was ok but i really do need to practice oreantation, i can do nose in but its 3/4 in that gets me a bit wobbly, i'm practicing on the sim with the rudder trim 4 clicks off and just trying to keep it level and in one place with just using the cyclic but i do struggle, when u watch the guys on hear that post vids (some lol) i just no there not thinking about anything thing its tottaly natural ability to put the heli within an inch of where they wont it weather its inverted or wotever direction its facing, i some times wonder if that ability is not there in the 1st place there's only so far u can take this hobby regardless of how long u try and practice.

Damn if that support the disc method actually works! I just tried it on Phoenix and ok I'm a bit ropey but I actually managed to 'Hover' nose in without crashing! I'm genuinely impressed! So thanks to the OP and whoever told him about it!
