the clubs around me
1 is all nitro and my gasser with the odd 450 that never gets flown
1 is split 50/50 with the odd gasser
the other is a 25/75 split with nitro in the majority
so no electric hasn't taken over
but in the scale events i attend nitro is getting less and less
gasser/turbine and electrics take the lead with more electrics cropping up
and for myself
i would fly anything bigger than a 500 electric, i've tried 50/600 size electric conversions but they went back to nitroHirobo Turbulence D3

It might need more than a few months to even get it , how can I put this, under your belt.Originally posted by panosg View Post

Who knows. This will be my first nitro and I may hated it in couple months,
I came back to flying last summer after a good few years layoff and I am still not properly set to go a year later!!
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.
When the blue light is flashing I am kidding.

I gave nitro up last winter when I sold off my 700n but I missed it so much I swapped my E7 hangar queen for a 600 LE with DFC head & an align 55 with pipe. It's now my joint favourite model it inspires me to try new stuff because just after I've warned up ie around 4 mins into a flight it still has another 6 mins in the tank with no fear of puffing a lipo
im even thinking of buying another 700 for a winter hack.Martin

Absolutely. I was really tempted a few weeks ago but the cost of packs combined with the fairly short flight time stopped me.Originally posted by panosg View PostBut packs on bigger helis are just the killer for me and I am sure most of others feel the same.
I did something similar but it was a few years ago; the cost of fuel was just too much at that time and I though my smaller electrics, Eolo and Storm 3D, would be enough but I missed the nitro a heck of a lot and more so the size.Originally posted by rcslopesurfer View PostI gave nitro up last winter when I sold off my 700n but I missed it
Though I like the nitro smoke, sound and smell I don't mind what's in the air as long as I am controlling it.Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

As someone has already said, if you fancy a go at Nitro, just go for it :-). However, if you are concerned about the costs, then it pays to do some math regarding electric vs nitro. You can buy Turnigy 6s 5000mah batts for £50 and a 1100watt 47amp PS + 30amp 1000watt charger for £150. The charger will replace whatever you have currently so you can sell it. If you have other 3s 450 size heli's, instead of buying new 6s batts, buy a y cable and double up you current 3s's as long as the capacity is 5000mah total. When you work out the cost per 15min of flying, you find that electric is by far the cheapest option.Originally posted by dogbiscuit View Postso, the options are electric trex 550/600 or trex 600nitro. the trouble is the budget is tight and big 6s packs are too expensive. also having just a couple of packs is really disapointing and charging equipment will require upgrading as well. if i had big funds for loads of packs and massive quick chargers i would stay electric, but i dont, so the 600n has appeared on my radar
Just my two penneth, but get a 550e and you'll be able to satisfy your 'power' itch :-)

Some love nitro, some hate it.
I have no plan to get a nitro, I had a kyosho concept 30 about 10 years ago and I wished electric was possible then.
Today's advances in lipo make electric a no brainer for me. I don't want to go back to noise, smell, oil, cleaning, fuel pumps, glow plugs with heaters, not even to mention the crazy price of the stuff.
No thank you, gimme a clean leccy any day, I'd rather run the car engine for charging power if I have to.Just a trusty rusty Raptor E550 these days

That would be the noise that blades make (known as a blade fart), although you nitro flyers never probally heard what that sounds like, just a load engine.lol.Originally posted by electricsceadu View Postat an open fly-in yesturday i couldn't hear my nitro powered jet ranger for the noise of a trex 700e
