Harv stop mouling over it and get your self a smoker ....... but like mentioned already, budget another £100-£150 for fuel pump, fuel, starter and glow starter. You can use my stuff for now if needs be.

Bit off topic, had my engine going for the first time yesterday in my back garden ( no fbl controller as yet ) started first time and the sound and smoke was to die for!
Hopping to maiden mine this weekend ( I know I know I said to you that's going to be a slow build bla bla bla but it went together like a dream! ) I am picking up the Brain tomorrow evening from a lovely chap here, so hopefully I will have it set up and ready for Saturday afternoons fly.
I hope I get a text message from Geek in a bit asking me if I need any help setting the engine up on Saturday ( hint hint )

Nitro is great fun, if you want one get one. I have both.

Smoke, smell and engines . Although they both sure have their own advantages.

I changed to all electric about a year ago now, best move i ever made but seeing as i want to learn inverted auto's i think a nitro is better for this, mainly because its easy to bail out, would i change back, no way not a chance.

well, i thought this would be the more common answer ross, but seems folks still like their nitros......

maybe the nitro is addictive in more ways than one!!
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

When the blue light is flashing I am kidding.

Why simplify when it is so much simpler to complicate.

At list you had a go with the nitros Ross.
But packs on bigger helis are just the killer for me and I am sure most of others feel the same.

Who knows. This will be my first nitro and I may hated it in couple months, but also I may love it.
But at list i had a go and not just wondering what is like owning one.

Harvey IMHO I don't think anyone can answer your question mate. Get one, if you don't like it then move it on.

I'm sticking to Turnigy packs to keep the cost lower. Absolutely no point whatsoever spending double on optipower.

Yeah i think everyone should try nitro, there are many plus sides over electric, it just wasn't for me, the other thing to remember is i'm now completely set up for electric flying,

A lot of outlay but imo worth it.

I agree about the apparent trend but I read that only 5% of peeps who start with helicopters stick with it and you can imagine who the ones are that drop out - I guess a good proportion of the 95% that give up will be shopping mall fliers with small electrics.

Not too many start off with nitro these days; I started with nitro because nitro was all there was. Clockwork helicopters never took off. Hehehehehe

So for me going to nitro is always my recommendation despite the surge in electric interest. On some forums all the chat is about electric. I know there are reasons against nitro, as you rightly point out a big one is investment; however, my reasons for sticking to nitro and/or recommending it even to newbies are the usual: larger birds (and thus greater stability), longer flight times (so you can really get into what you are doing) and the sense of it being a smaller version of the real thing (police helicopters just don't run on hybrid power).

Nitro is messy, noisy (love that) and a lot of hassle(we love to fiddle - right) but who sells them on to get out of nitro..........I never will! I am pretty sure nitro fliers keep their helis and get electric as well.

You don't have to have gigantic nitro ships, the Gaui NX4 (I think that's the one - OS37 engine and is it 500mm blades?) is coming soon and will be ideal for me - nitro on a stick. I nearly bought a .20 (think I got that right) so as to go smaller but still nitro!!

Once you have the support kit and a nice flier you will never look back. You mention lipo costs but nitro fuel costs too.

Finally you just know you have to do nitro cos it's there. lol

I like electric in the smaller stuff and for me that's where it belongs. If I live to be 100 maybe I'll see battery tech so advanced that electric will be the ideal way to go.
                              +1 on the Gaui NX4

One of the reasons I am trying nitro. If I like it then the NX4 will be added to my collection!
