That, making hay when the sun shines is not always a good thing.....
Let me explain.....................
Yesterday, farmer boy made a nice job of cutting the grass in the fields around us. Today he was up early throwing it around via a machine attached to his tractor to help it dry and lay it in rows.
Now this was the opportunity I've been waiting for - clear blue skies, very little wind and short bouncy grass for acres.
Time to get carried away with the mCPx......
It was going very well: l learnt more in four batteries than I had the previous four weeks, not having to worry about the cherry trees, the overhead power lines, the house or the dyke and with the low cut grass and tufted furrows of 'would-be hay' adding to the unbreakable nature of the little one my confidence was boosted no end. So when the wind did pick up we were on a high,,, we could deal with anything,,, after all I had read the reports, the mCPx was well capable outside in wind, I know I had read that somewhere.
Now I'm sure many of you have had the same or similar thoughts when it happens, but this was my first - yes you've guessed it - high up, a gust from behind and away she went - along with my control and orientation - ditch her before she gets to the woods was the only thing I could think - the last I saw was a speck of dust plummeting to earth.
Everyone has heard the well known saying about needles and haystacks. Well I was now the one hunting the mCPx in the newly tossed grass ridden ten acre field, hoping that farmer boy wasn't on his way back for a second assault on the green stuff.
I even got the bike out, cycling up and then down each line telling myself that - I knew full well one day soon I would break her, but I had never considered that I would actually loose her.
Then, two hours (yes two hours) later - there, cowering under a few drying blades of grass I spotted the familiar red, white and blue plumage of the lesser-wind-able mCPx - I'm sure she was hiding. She was of course unhurt, just a minor whimper from her workings.. And a sigh of relief from me..
I learnt shed loads today.... Most of all - don't believe all you read about little helis and their ability in wind.
In the end though - was it good?
You bet it was.
Now when do I get the 500?
