  • Advice ....... please

    Hi Guys

Ive been away from the hobby for a while and due to my lack of brain cells, have realized that I have left my (5) 2200 3S lipos fully charged for around a month

Will these still be ok to plug in to my heli (Rex450) and then re-charge ????

    Thanks

I always leave all my Lipos charged, sometimes they sit for a month or two before use, depending on what helis i am using, i just plug them in and fly them.

I fly my planes very rarely,my 3s packs for them have gone a year stored charged and i have just flown them,(Turnigys)

i once left my 450 batteries charged for a year before using them, then still worked fine but a few puffed slightly on charging.

i dont think a month will hurt them much (but if im wrong someone will correct me)

Dont own anything at moment and these shakes are getting worse every day

They'll be fine. I'm not sure where this "you must not store them fully charged" comes from or the reason behind it, I've never had any issues with batteries left fully charged for long periods.

Might pay to just check all the cells are still balanced but I would think no problem. I dont think it is good for there life span leaving them fully charged. Plus more volatile from what I understand.

Maybe its come from HOT countries, where if left fully charged the packs get damaged due to the extra heat/slight increase in voltage...........

Batteries are affected by temperature and or humidity. If batteries are too hot or too cold, then yes batteries will exhibit behaviors that would be incongruent with their normal and designed operating specifications. This is not a manufacturer defect but a direct consequence of using a battery in an environment that the battery was never designed to be used. Let us refer to this type of environment as a weather extreme.

If a battery is exposed to a weather extreme it may stop working, bulge, bubble, melt, damage your device, smoke, create sparks, create flames, expand, contract, and or even blow-up in very extreme cases.
leave it fully charged then you stand more chance of damaging the lipo, than if you left it at 3.7/3.8v

Its not the case that you must do it. Its a recommendation. The longer you keep them fully charged the shorter their life span will be. Think of lipos as a bit of fruit. They all have a shelf life, and there are measures to help prevent degradation. In the case of lipos, keeping them at storage voltage when not in use and kept away from heat.

I would fly them for maybe 1/2 the time you would normally then recharge them fully and use as normal if your not sure. Wouldn't bother topping them up. But I recon they will be fine as they are.
