  • 700N Crash :(

    A sad day for me

Was out with the 700 and had 2 flights.

The first was fine did some hovers, a few circuits and autos. I landed briefly to check the tail and head (its a fairly new heli so i always check it over before and after a flight).

All seemed fine, so i started it back up flicked into idle up and climbed up to do a few tail in tick tocks, as i pulled back on the elevator the whole heli shuttered and seized up knocking it off balance, so i was inverted with no engine, and i was reasonably low, so i tried my best to get as much head speed up as i can to try and flip the heli before i hit the ground, but my attempt was in vain so i had to settle for an inverted auto straight onto the head of the heli, as it hit it bounced up and onto the tail, bending it like a banana.

    Damage:
    Side frame
    Main gear
    Main Shaft
    Feathering Shaft
    boom
    torque tube

it could of been a lot worse and it goes to show that practasing autos does pay off!

Im really gutted as i saved ages for it, now i need to save again for the parts

Not good. Talking to Geek, having seen helis landed on the headbutton, From now on if my heli cuts inverted , Will keep it inverted and try to hold it low until the HS drops off then let it sink as it runs out of lift. Hopefully that will prevent any damage .........
SWRCH , Oh.. And a Helix 700 Gasser, Hv with SK540.....with SAB HPS head.

Unlucky with that crash, especially as it was only the 2nd flight is there any damage to the engine? or did it just stall?
I crashed my 700E a few days back, was cutting too much grass and it got caught. luckily, only the main gear stripped. so landing on the head buttom is probably a reasonable solution if there isn't enough headspeed to flip back.

I think the one way bearing seized causing the engine to stop, and i managed to auto onto the head but it all happened so fast i barely had time to do anything

          gutted

I certainly hope you weren't flying it in, or near that car park, you know the responses I had the other day??.
Unlucky, all the same. good luck with the rebuild

Thats really strange, im trying to work out how that would happen without damaging the other parts around it?

Ouch! That's the problem with big heli's, when they go in you get a big repair bill!

Same, we still cant locate the cause of the seizure, we originally thought engine that wasn't the case, then we thought one way bearing..but that seems okay as well..i have no idea what caused it
