Uses "sky writing" blades.

Spartan RC used to do them.

Night Graphix still do.

And for the tech description....

there is (on that set in the vid) a row of red and white leds on the top and green and white leds on the botton. there is a sensor on the blades to index a location the heli body uasally an infra red emmittter on the body and reciver on each blade.
thats the phyisical bit
then ther is a mirco in each blade that looks for the infra red pulse and works out the time between pulses. this is then used to time devision multiplex the leds (using the persistance of light princable) to generate the pattern previously loaded into the mirco. effectivly the pattern is sliced up so that the corect bit is dieplayed at the same point in time within each rotation thus rebuilding the pattern in the air..... Hence sky writing. The same princable is used on "pendulium clocks" and giant message boards like those in picadilly circus this is just the lminiture version.......
