I have come in to the thread late but I agree with you Bcphill and I think I have been to the shop in question and I like to think that going to a model shop or come to think of it any specialised shop that not only are they selling a product but they should be a font of knowledge.
I expect a model shop to be a friendly exciting place to go.
I there are too many places out there that are just after your money "box shifters" but there are still quite a few good model shops. Addlestone is ok, http://www.kevsracingbits.com/ is good local mail order and very small shop good advice and http://www.mickcharlesmodels.co.uk/ is very good but expensive.
As for clubs if you don’t want to join a club pop up to Hanwoth air park http://www.hamfc.co.uk/home.htm The club flies on a public field so you do not need to be a member and they are great guys very good for planks and helis very helpful and not too far from you pop and see them.

    Hope this helps

I think I know which shop this is and it's not an unusual occurance, the bloke that runs the shop is a grade A a*$ehole.
I can understand how some places would be unwilling to help out on items bought in other shops but this guy is just an arrogant tosser. I'll drive a 100 mile round trip for a tube of CA than go to his shop.
I bought my first heli there (an Ikarus piccolo) first off I had to argue the toss that it could be flown with seperates, that a MS hornet was too fragile for a begginer and please just sell me what I want. A few weeks later I went back to get some spares and was made to feel a fool for daring to ask for piccolo spares without the part numbers, eventually after lots of huffing and puffing (probably to move his bulky frame about) they got out the manual and told me the spare part wasnt in and it would take 3-4 weeks to get in. I drove to moors (the one in croxley) and picked one up from there instead, had a nice chat and even got some tips on flying and told about a local small hall to fly in.

Regarding the club in harlington I'm a member up there as well it's a very friendly club, no hassle with planks versus helis like you get at some of the other clubs. If you want more info drop me a PM for details on the club.

WELL THAT I DO UNDERSTAND some people just dont have manners and they should consider if this is really the job for them,

I must praise my local LHS, Nitroflight in Rotherham.

I recently bought a Blade 400 from a rival shop close by and had an over exhuberant landing, and bent a few bits. Called in for a chat today and mentioned what I'd done, they said ,'no problem, tell us what you need and we can order them in for you'.
They dont actually sell the Blade so dont stock parts.

Incidentally, these are the guys who were trying to tempt me with a Mini Pred, which I'd virtually told them I would have.

So, no ill feeling over me buying from another LHS.

          Nice one guys.
