  • If I were to buy a US tx???

Or even from the far east?

What would the differences be, would it be illegal to use due to power outputs or other such tech stuff.

Other than that I assume it would be the exact same radio?

Not sure they would come with the all important CE approval sticker if they're not UK supplied, I could be wrong but I would have thought it with would make them illegal to use in the uk, which would invalidate your insurance

Its all to do with the CE markings, you could use it over here but some clubs (like ours) dont allow Tx's without a CE mark, and also if the worst happened & you tried to claim on your BMFA insurance I dont think they'd cover you if they found out.

Which brand are you looking at?

They all have a different approach to this issue, so for example, Hitec are generally safe to buy from anywhere as they have a single CE/FCC marked product that seems to go everywhere.

HH/Spektrum on the other hand go to a lot of trouble to make sure the radios from one market are not suitable for use in a different market.

JR get caught up in it as well with different radios going to their USA distributor (HH) from those available to their UK distributor (MacGregor)

                I wouldn't do it myself.

Right now most if not all new JR radios sold in the USA have DSMX which immediately identifies them as a non-European radio so you don't even have to go looking for the missing CE mark to know they are not legal for use over here.

Also MacGregor (or HH UK) isn't going to want to touch them if you have any problems so you'd have to return to the USA for any service work.

I don't think anyone ever suggested they were made in the USA and certainly anything from MacGregor will have a CE mark as they are the UK based importer.

The problem is that different versions are supplied to different markets, so you have to be careful where you buy from if you want to be 'legal' in the UK.
