  • Need help with motor checkup

Looking for someone who is knowledgeable and have tools to check a Scorpion 4530-540LE - check the bearings, shaft, stators, test if it runs smooth etc. and replace bearings if needed.
It's been mounted in my TDR and I'd like to make sure it's in a good condition after the crash.
I can do basic checkup and everything appears to be ok (it was well protected between upper frames and suffered no damage), but wanted to make sure.
    Will pay, of course.

I was thinking about sending it to Scorpion and asking them to do this as well, do you think they can do this?

    Hi Michal,

I'm not an expert on motors by any means but normally if a bearing has gone you will hear or feel it straight away, if you want to double check you can pull apart the motor and spin the bearings to check if they are smooth.

Here is an important check to perform on motors:

    Cheers

Do you secure the new bearings with CA or a thread lock type compound?

I would use a little retaining Loctite, normally yellow or green. The green is very strong as you probably know, so very little is needed.

I've heard it's best not to Loctite the shaft to the inner race as when the motor expands from the heat it can put sideways pressure on the bearing's inner race.

I would check it as per the vid above and the bearings. If they are all good then run it

I would happily do it for you mate. I would change the bearings to the very best out there- SKF, and dial gauge check the shaft for straightness.

Send me a PM if you want me to do it for you mate.

(I have a proper press for doing the bearings)
