  • Field of Glee becomes....

    But first.

Andy, Paul, and me met up at the field of Glee.

I showed the guys Quadasaurus with his GPS unit. The stability is off the planet. At some point the cows came into the field and strolled up to see what we were up to. Paul and me stood guard and eventually they went munching a path up to the far end of the field. Inquisitive little creatures.

I flew Speedy but had managed to completely lose orientation and ploughed it into the ground. Following the furrow to its end Paul and me found Speedy with a seriously bent arm. Had a try at straightening it out but it just snapped. Well, they were pretty dented from a previous encounter with a fence. About tenner to fix.

Sent Quadasaurus up again but he developed a bad tick on the left front motor. Tried him in attitude mode and he went barking and tore into the trees. While I was packing up (didn't fly Harry, thought it best not to) Paul went to see if he could find Quadarsaurus. He hadn't had any luck by the time Andy and myself got there. I got the transmitter out and prodded the motors. Thwack-thwack-thwack, so, further back along the path. Repeated the procedure until the sound was right in front of me. Parted the branches and there he was right in front of me. Result? One bent propeller. I'm going to have to check the motor.

And, with bits in bags we left..... The Field That Dripped Blood!!! Dum-dum-dahhhhhh!

Amazing sometimes how things switch from being great to crap .... heli's can be so temperamental ... Can fly great one day, sit in a case overnight and then decide to spontaneously fly like a bag of spanners

          Hi Vikki,
Sorry, my narcolepsy kicked in before I got to check up on your progress . All I can say is wow, wow,and wow again, excellent quality video and some serious editing gone on there.
It is a pity you don't get any sense of the wind in Quady's cloud busting expedition, that would really show how stable that GPS system is.
I'm still feeling rotten about seeing Gary's 550 in a mangled mess, after that amazing flight. I know "that's helis" but never nice to see one explode like it did. I've changed my mind about converting the 425 to torque tube .

To everyone else(and Vikki), what Vikki failed to mention, is that after a short chat to us (while quadasaurus was being heaven sent), she looked up and had lost sight of him, now that's confidence in your GPS system. She found him, we reckon 200+ feet up, and instructed him to come home. 2 seconds later, she wishing he'd hurry up (still 199.7 feet up), as he only has 25 seconds left in his pack . He did make it back and in one piece (for now)

The wobble on my Gaui 425(stretched to 500) must be the new 500mm woodies (yesssssss, I know, but I'm cr*p at flying), all balanced as per usual routine, but she flew perfectly the previous day with the 425mm GF's 2 days before. Don't think they are symmetrical, as we had to adjust blade tracking by 2 turns. Never mind!!

It was also a pity I didn't offer to film Vikki playing with Limpy(130x) in the same 15odd MPH winds that none of us ( well , Chris and I) wanted to take our 500's and 550's up in . Not only was limpy more than happy, he was more than capable of handling those strong winds, now gusting a bit too. Vikki has become the local legend in our book, no fear, no qualms, and certainly no holding her back. She did say a while ago that she had grown a pair and got on with it, I'm going to have to eat 3 bags of john innes before I get to that stage ha ha ha.

All in all, another good social few hours, a shame about the expenses incurred on the day, never nice to see helis broken, but that's the nature of the beast, I guess.

Thanks again for a good day and a brilliant view over Havant, the Solent and the Isle of Wight, .
Andy (or any if you prefer )

Nice honest video Vikki (a lady of many talents).

Your namesake enjoyed her flights yesterday and is becoming a piro(maniac). Starting to feel really comfortable flying her now but feel she may benefit from the metal A gear as the plastic one is showing evidence of wear (about 18 flights in total). 👍

Guys, your not wrong about heli's flying fine one day then the next time you drag them out they are different machines, took mine out to local field yesterday and gyro wouldnt initiate, tried for 5-10 mins with no joy. In the end i had to re-cal the ESC for throttle then all worked fine. wierd as F**K

My A gear is light on teeth but not enough to slip. Good to hear Little Vikki (tap-a-tap-a-tap-a) is having fun. Limpy was revelling in the wind yesterday
Don't know why Quady developed a tick but will find out
                  Sounds like you're progressing

Thanks, Andy, forgot to mention Limpy. For both quads £12 will see them right (that's not each). 😃

                        Hi Vikki,

Brilliant video, glad I came along, just a shame about the carnage, especially Gary's 550.

                        See you at Fareham.

Contacted Geoff at Quadcopters to see if he might know why the left front arm drops and resumes like it does. Andy, Paul and Chris saw it, it's quite severe 😢

Just a thought, but that's the field I did drip blood in when Limpy bit my finger. Could it be that 'The Field That Dripped Blood' could be tamed if I went over there and chanted:

                            Limpy was not at fault.
Limpy did not bite me on purpose.
I was the stupid moo that tried to grab him out of the air.
I banish thee foul dripped blood curse.

You know what? I think I will do just that, just in case, ya know!

I doubt any helicopter field could be tamed. But if you want to chant to the heli gods, you go girl Ha ha ha! I'm sure the cows won't mind a bit of music!
You know what they say?? "if you ain't crashing, you ain't trying hard enough". I must be trying too bloody hard LOL.

                              Have a good week,
                              Andy.
