  • Lessons needed. Advice on who/where please.

I am looking for someone to help with my learning. I seem to have stalled on my learning, im sure its just confidence. I looking for someone in or near to Watford that offers buddi box training.

I am obviously prepared to pay and travel to your field but not sure where to turn.

    Any offers/ suggestions greatly received.

    Watford

ps I fly either a Raptor 50 or TREX 700n FBL and would need the buddi boxing to be with my JR radio

    Hi

I fly at Field End Road in Eastcote which isn't that far away from Watford. I'd be happy to try and help a bit although obviously it depends on your level of flying . If you'd like I can send you coordinates on Google maps.

It is not club just a field but it's quite big - nitro models are allowed on a Saturday and Sunday between 11 and 3 although I've never seen one fly there!

      Hey.

If you don't find anyone nearer, I'm based in Northamptonsire, about 17 miles from Bedford and offer lessons and setup services through my flight school.
I would be able to buddy box you on JR gear.

              Hi

Me and a south African chap fly 700s and 600s on Croxley moor most weekends. Can't offer you actual lessons as such but we both fly to a reasonable level and would be happy to help! The south African chap takes lessons with the flying fish ( dave fisher) and the site he teaches is very close to Watford ( check out his flight school. It gets quite expensive for lessons but he is a very advanced pilot).

I never understood how someone can teach anyone how to fly an rc helicopter. Maybe the theory of flying, set up, maintenance, then yes, but again that's why this great forum s for.

I would though, phoenix practice and stick time at the field is the only way to go.

                  What?

I've lived just over the road from that park for over 10 years and although I've heard rumours of Heli flying there I've never actually seen anyone! When do people get over there?

Usually on Saturdays but more often Sundays at 11-12 there're around 4-5 people there usually until about 4.

The problem with that field is that you never know when there'll be a football match on, so it can be disappointing to travel down there and then find you can't fly (I should know it's a 40 minute walk for me ).

It is quite a nice field as it's large enough that two people can fly at once, and there's little if any waiting time to fly.

                      Oh, how wrong you are

We've got a member in the club who has been stuck in the hover for around a year, maybe more. Gallons of fuel and stick time on the sim just hasn't given him the confidence to move away from the relative safety of the area just in front of him.

A few weeks ago he asked if I would buddie him, I'd never done it before but said of course I would. We discussed what he wanted to get out of it and low and behold not 3 weeks later after around 10 tanks I've got him out into the field, lazy 8's and the beginnings of a circuit.

I've only had to take over control to show him what I want him to do, I've got him high enough that if he does get into trouble I talk him through moving it to a safe position before bringing it back or carrying on, reinforcing not to panic. He didn't really need me to help him fly, he needed the confidence and I am merely a crutch talking him through.

It's worked a treat and solo he's doing exactly the same, this is where the stick time helps once you've moved away from the hover. I've enjoyed it probably more than him to tell you the truth, I've got a real buzz out of helping him.
