Anyone flying at Croydon airport?

Just curious if anyone flies at the old Croydon airport site these days?

I was flying there sometimes during the week last year and then the friends I was flying with stopped going and I haven't been back. I later heard there was a problem with 'travelers' that had taken up residence there.

It's very convenient to me and used to be a good mid-week alternative place to fly.

I haven't been there in ages. The travellers were there a while back but no more. I have driven pass there a couple of times in the last few weeks and there are no travellers there.

I used to to go there as a kid to watch the RC planks cos I lived close back then. PGKEVET was a regular before he moved to the country to herd sheep last year but don't hear much about the place these days ?

Yeah last summer myself, pgkevet, Tridztan and tiddler used to go over there on weekdays (and there were a couple other forum members there from time to time as well). It was generally a very pleasant place to fly.

Well, at the moment it's a bit of an unknown.

A more tangible alternative would be to get more heli flyers over at Epsom Downs because there are no restrictions about nitro like there are at Croydon and no worry about travellers coming back etc. it's a huge space and is grossly under-used due to it being mainly plank flyers that are extremely picky about the conditions they will fly in.

I'll see if I can get hold of Steve as he was going to be staying over that way this week and maybe he can scope it out and see what's happening over there.

I was thinking about doing a little casual flyin at Richmond park sometime, but the weather has been too unpredictable earlier this year. It's electric only and prob needs to be smaller (500 size and under) though, but the space is very inspiring, it's worth seeing.

Regarding Richmond Park, the closest stations are North Sheen and Mortlake and on the South corner there's Norbiton. I think the flying area is up by the north end of the park. It looks like any train station is going to a pretty long walk, possible doable on a bike but I don't know what the roads are like from those stations.

I abandoned the idea of going to Croydon this week as it requires a lift from Waddon station.

Sooooo, I'll just stick to Kempton and Epsom Downs unless I hear something more about Croydon. For Richmond Park I need to find out how difficult it is to get to the flying area from one of those train stations.

I work about 150 yards from the flying site and spend my week day evenings in he Hilton Hotel over the road. I've seen some planes flying but usually don't finish work till after dark so haven't been over for a gander.

The travellers come and go on a regular basis. They often set up camp right outside our office and then disapear after a day or two, then back after a few days - it's a continuous circle.
