  • Aaargh! DX8 and Vbar wtf? wont bind!

    guys,

Trying to set up my Vbar on the 700 today and it just will not bind up.

Im def doing the bind procedure just fine as it binds to my DX6i just fine. The DX8 just will not go though.

The sats im using were previously connected to a 3gx that was controlled through this same DX8 so I know the sats are fine.

Any ideas? anyone else had this?

The sats blink like they are in bind mode, then when i switch on the DX8 in bind mode they stop blinking and just go black and nothing else happens.

If i do the same with Dx6i it binds up fine but I dont want to use that transmitter...

Are they DSMX or DSM2 satellites?

What mode are you trying to set in V-Bar?

If you have DSMX satellites make sure your DX8 is set to 11ms DSMX and V-Bar is set to bind in DSMX mode. Have the TX about a meter away when binding.

Yeah did all that lawrence it wouldnt work.

Eventually seem to have it bound up in DSM2 mode, but now im just lost.

As far as I can see, Aileron is channel 2 in my DX8. It registers the correct movements on the vbar setup all the way through the TX calibration etc which ive done without error.

But now it seems to be telling me to plug my elevator servo into channel 1 on the Vbar unit itself. When I do this, it only moves with aileron input!
I dont know how to fix this. The software knows what channel is what and agrees with my TX up to the point I tell it about servos (the "servos" step after coll. dir step)

        Confused.

          Just tried to rebind.

          TX: DSMX 11ms
          Vbar: Spektrum DSM-X 11ms (1 or 2)

Try to bind, same thing. Lights stop flashing as soon as i start the bind process on the TX.

          TX: DSM2 22ms
          Vbar: Spektrum Satellites Digital Center

Is the only configuration I can get to work. It binds in DSM2 22ms.

I still cant work out how to bloody hell to fix this issue though with elevator/pitch servo swap! Software says plug elevator to channel 1 but channel 1 moves when I input aileron - despite the fact every other screen has agreed with me?!

I had a similar problem. I used to fly a plank. When I converted over to big fans I originally used the receiver on my plank in my 450 Pro. I created a new model for the heli and tried to bind the receiver to that but with no joy at all, just like you. However, once I deleted the old plank model in my DX8 the receiver bound straight away to the 450 model. It appears that the DX8 recognises the receivers it's bound to and will not bind - or at least refuses to co-operate with the same receiver to two or more different models.

I suggest you either bind your 3GX model to a different receiver or back up then delete the 3GX model then try again with the 700 model.

Is this part of your problem? When setting a Vbar up the channel assignments change depending on whether you use a RX or sats etc

Im pretty sure ive sorted all of this guys, most of it was just me being an idiot.

My sats are only DSM2 - I looked at them and read DSM-x but the case is tricky to read and my eyesight isnt amazing and it turns out they are actually only DSM2, and it binds fine on this method.

Regarding the elevator / AIleron servo thing, i cleared everything out of TX and Vbar, reflashed firmware and rebound and it seemed to work ok from then onward.... Weird!

I just want to check, whats the difference between DSM2 and DSMX sats? is it worth updating them?

Also, is it ok to mount the main Vbar unit (Not the sensor unit) with velcro for ease of removal? It doesnt have any movement sensors in it does it?

                Cheers

Glad you got it working . That was weird how the V-Bar didn't display any firmwares when you click online update. I thought his firmware wasn't quite right as all the V-Bars I have seen show the updates. Hence the problem with alr and elevator.

I sent Delarado this link: Others | VStabi

I'd say worth upgrading to DSMX but DSM2 will work fine too. DSMX has 11ms response and higher resolution. It also has a different way of communicating with the heli but DSM2 has always worked well for me too back with my DX7. Since my DX8 I see no reason to stick with DSM2 when you can use DSMX .

I'd say yes to Velcro on an electric model, but no for a nitro as you want more dampening. No it doesn't have any sensors at all on it.

                  Cheers

DSM2 also supports 11ms and 2048 resolution, but I know VBar has an occasional issue with it so it is perhaps safer to use DSMX satellites if you want Hires mode, but the higher response and resolution are not 'new' features of DSMX in general.

anyone have any good starting points for tail gain?

Ive set it to 60% on the tx (DX8), might back it off a bit as thats quite high thinking about it... but its also settable in the software? which do I do it on, do they both take effect?

Yes, thanks Mark but as you said with all the trouble I have heard about DSM2 on 11ms with V-Bar I wouldn't bother.

Delarado, The recommendations are to the side, by default version pro should have it's tail gain set in the software (on home menu) and that's the only way I have ever done it.

Oh...ok - So whys it say about the channel for it on the setup?

any idea of a good starting point?

Well you can do it by transmitter if you want to, on the main V-Bar screen under the drop down box called "Active bank selection" on the right you can set Aux = Gyro gain

I'd recommend 90% and start from there, maybe 80% if you want to play it safe and work your way up (possibly down). This is around what the V-Bar software recommends.

                              90%? Really?

This is a DX8, i normally run 60% ish on most of my models?
