  • 550 clone maybe next :)

Once I get my trex 500 up in the air, I think my next purchase maybe a HK550TT, I know it's a bit of a risk with HK clones, but it does look fairly decent.

Flybarless, full metal alloy head, full carbon frame, metal tail unit, torque tube, and other nice bits.

If I put half decent electronics in it, along with a ar7200bx I think it could be pretty nice

    Let me know your thoughts

Have to wonder if a second hand align or similar airframe would be a better route. I do admit, the pictures look ok but it seems you never know what you will get with these kits (bits missing or don't quite fit etc)

      Always 550 size airframes around.....

My 2p worth on HK clones:My HK250 was a disaster, wouldn't recommend that to anyone. Easy to be drawn in to a $19 airframe but I sunk over £120 in to that before I binned it in disgust. My HK500 was actually very good apart from the tail rotor assembly which could not be set up to run smoothly. Then, when I tried replacing some parts with genuine Align items the interchangeability issues started to creep in. Bit by bit is simply HAD to replace the entire tail assemby including boom, control rod, belt, supports etc. Cost a fortune in repeated fast-lad orders as more issues became apparent. It flew really well though.Maybe the 550 will be better, but you should be aware before spending big money on all the additional components and batteries. Indeed, if you have a good selection of TREX 500 batteries then you might want to consider a second hand 600E Pro which will use 2 of the TREX 500 packs.Si

I have already posted about this. I bought the HK550FB a couple of months ago and the quality as far as I'm concerned is pretty good. The frame feels pretty solid compared to the Trex. I just wish I had waited for the FBL version as it is ONLY $5 more.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

The general opinion is that clones are never going to be as good as the genuine artical but I never seen a bad failure of ones myself, some poor finish on some parts and maybe the odd bad fit, I don't think I would thrush some of the electricals so much mind. But you can pick up secondhand 550's for good money now and my sons one is superb
