  • slappers

The slapper is the manoevre which is like a big tick tock but as the heli passes vertical it performs a half roll, so both sides of the tick tock are positive (or negative).

now I can't get it (in phoenix), the heli can't carry on moving and do the half roll without stopping or going sideways. As soon as the roll begins the collective is driving it sideways off line, if the collective goes to zero it stops. The best I can get is a really wobbly transition involving not only collective and aileron but a lot of rudder as well which sort of turns the heli round so it can more or less do the reversals as they should be.
So I don't think a clean slapper is possible.
I'd like to see a phoenix recording of a good one please!

(this would belong in a 3D manoevres section if there was one).

Dont spend more flying models than it costs to fly for real

Doing slappers for real presents the same problems..you need to be at or very close to zero pitch in the roll or it will go offline.

Going by the way they were flown at 3DM it would be better described as a Rainbow. To get them neat you have to be quick and smooth on the controls and feed the collective in fairly quickly after the roll to give the impression the model is constantly moving.

It's a actually quite a difficult manouvre to fly very well...I think the K factor reflects this

later on tonight I will try and do a couple for you, but I have got to go out this now cheers

I was just playing with the sim and remembered this thread - so recorded a quick and dirty one.
You can see a bit too harsh pitch change in there, but ho hum - it'll do
      Just one back and forward...

      Cheers,
      Rob

Download the file to your Desktop or similar---->Copy the file into your c: drive directory--->Program files---->Phoenix and paste it into the demos section.

Open Phoenix from your PC and watch the slapper from the demos..

the trick to slappers is keeping the pitch on as you go into the roll, most people come off the pitch too soon when learning and it just stops and then falls.

You can load .rec files into phoenix by placing the .rec file into the recordings folder here:

I received a very nice couple of slappers by pm shortly after starting this thread!

if you can make it look easy, then you have got it cracked.

I prefer to impress my normally ignorant audience by making manoevres wobbly and jerky so what I am doing looks incredibly difficult!
