  • Another gyro issue

Hi guys another of thore gyro questions here im afraid. Had the trex in a hover after rea build , put new metal head on it so all is cool looking now but every time im in the hover and add good power input to climbe out the tail kicks quite considerably . Align 550 gyro with heading hold fitted and an align 9g tail servo to suit . Should i be adding revo mixing to sort this or is it as simple as move the servo ball link in or out on its holes. The tail isn't wagging its just this kick that happens . Pain in the preverbial

    Thanks Jamie

The tail kick in a power climb is normally an indication that the gain might need increasing. Try increasing the gain a little at a time and see if that cures it. If you get the point where you then have a tail wag you have gone too far and something else needs looking at.

You don't use revo mixing with a heading hold gyro, it has to be inhibited.

I would also add that if increasing the gain doesn't fix it then for some reason you don't have enough power in the tail. You might need to increase the size of the blades or you might not be getting full pitch on the tail blades.

Have you changed the headspeed since the rebuild? Before the rebuild was it working without the tail kick?

        Hi Jamie,

Lessening the gyro gain slightly may also cure this problem, it sounds like you have the gyro set to its perfect point for hover and the additional power from the climb is putting a bit more load on the gyro, just a few points back should see you right.

Thanks for the input guys , head speed is as before i pranged it and there has all ways been this kick when increasing pitch .Just had a shot of it and increased the gyro gain to max and its inproved it by 50 % but not sorted . Wonder if the servo isn't up to the job . Its an align rc-6x at 0.1 s 60 deg , servo ball link is 10mm out from centre , might try adjusting that
