  • Blade 450 3D behaviour.

Sometime last week both Larry and Junior were on their sickbeds so I took Chopasaurus out for a fly.

I didn't like it at all, he flew so differently to the 450X that I have to ask the following question:

First, here's what happened: when I was doing fast forward flight if I let the cyclic go to mid-stick the nose would pitch up sharply and the heli wanted to pitch over backwards leaving me to give forward stick to bring him to a hover.

He hovers ok but I don't recall this pitch back behaviour, mind you, I never did any FFF with him so I wouldn't know.

Question: Is this normal behaviour with a flybarred heli? I seem to recall the 120SR doing similar. My 450X doesn't do this.

Is it me, is it normal or is it not set up right?

    Might give him another go.

    Many thanks.

    Vikki.

The 450X FBL will definitely be better in the wind. I started on a Twister 3D Storm which is a copy of the Blade 400. The Blade 450 is just an update of the 400. The last time I flew my Twister in the wind it was all over the place. Boomed up, veered downwards, but never would it go in a straight line. It was very exciting and good practice for recovery. However, I think that most of the problems can be put down to wear and tear and sloppy head and flybar. Good fun though. Flew my 450X on Friday when it was gusting quite a lot from 45% front and left. It held up pretty good apart from blowing out of a knife edge piro. I put it down to the wind direction.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

Thanks, John. It was a little windy. I'll be sticking with FBL

Check the cg (centre of gravity) vicki it needs to be bang on the centre of the main shaft.
Do this by holding one of the main blades by the root & blade grip In your fist put it in front of you at face height & position the tail 90 degrees to the left of your hand now let the tail go it will either drop rise or stay put.
If it drops add a little lead weight to the nose till it stays sitting level if it rises adds little lead to the tail.
Do exactly the same with the tail to the right as the oneway & motor can effect the test once altered to suit it should fly alot more neutraly. Go to your local tyre fitters & ask if you can have some stick on weights they are ideal for sorting out cg issues on models.

Ok was just a thought as pitching uup normaly on flybarred machines means the nose is too heavy if it was tail heavy it would normaly pull the nose down at the ground.

So the COG on my Twister must keep moving around while it's flying then?

No it's more likely to do with slop on the airframe or servos.

Which is what I said above Martin. I'm a newbie oldie, but I know a bag of nails when I fly it.
