Hi All.
After stripping the head button out of my 500 last week by just picking the heli up I was a little surprised.
So last night I decide to check the pitch when putting back together after having it packed up for travel.
Problem is I only have the standard level gauge setup that came with the kit. EG t-bar that screws into the head in replace of the button and the bar that goes through with a manual pitch gauge. I thought there might be enough thread to at least hold this tight enough to check the pitch.
Problem is if you use the standard screw that comes with the kit for the head button (m2 x 8) it is too long and bottoms out on the feathering shaft before it tightens up the Tbar (in replace of the button) I compared to the standard 500 head and it appears the recess in the DFC head is slightly deeper than the standard one. Even on the standard one I noticed that it needed a lot of tension on the bolt to get the Tbar tight so suspect that the standard one bottoms out on the feathering shaft as well. I feel a little stupid as this is obviously the reason I stripped the head over tightening the bolt trying to get the tbar tight. I am normally fairly careful with the little bolts but I guess a 100 kg bloke and a 2mm bolt dont get along that easily. Would actually love a torque wench for these things. I am sure most people including my self over tighten all the bolts. guessing that doesn't exist and there are not setting for the bolt tension anyway.
So now the problem is I either need to machine the hole and thread in the head out to 2.5mm which I dont have the tools for. Or maybe it is easier to just buy a digital pitch gauge? Are they worth while? The align ones are only 20 quid by the looks here so not so bad. Are they accurate and are the align ones the ok or should I look at another brand.
Cheers
