  • trex 500 DFC head button stripped out

    Hi All.

Picked up my heli yesterday by the button on top of the head as I always do and it stripped the bolt out. Total bummer as a fairly new DFC head. I just took it off for the rest of my flying. Not sure what it does? The only think I can think off it is stops the blades from pitching too far if a link fails. Guessing if that happens there would be more to worry about but.

Is it ok to just leave or should I try and locktite back in?

    Cheers

only thing I us the head button for is slowing the blades down after landing ( or inverted scrapes I wish!!) It will be fine without

I never use the head button anymore. I think it's designed to let you touch it to slow the blades. I just wait 5 secs. If you need a new one I have a new 500 head button that I'm not using. Never put it on my 500 EFL Pro. Yours for nowt if you want it.

ok will just run without. Its not the head button that is the problem it is the thread that stripped out of the head "T" block when I picked the heli up. Just thought it might have had a more important use than slowing the blades down.
        Cheers

If you really want the head button back on you could always drill out the tread and replace it with helicoils or c-coil.

Don't know if the page is the right size but you get the idea. Might just be better to get a new head and not pick it up by the button

Before the days of fbl we would always run without as the button caused more damage to the grips in a smash. Just think of all the moving weight you just saved.

Yeah, the head button is only there to stop the blades spinning after you've landed. You're supposed to stop it with your palm. inherited from years ago when it became popular as it was kind of painful to stop blades spinning on a 60 size machine. I don't know who came up with the idea first tho but I remember when they became popular!

I never use head buttons on mine. i figured it's just another thing that will add vibration to my heli when it's spinning (you can never guarantee they are made true and even)
