  • Crashed the trex500 - recorded in 720p 50 frames/sec for your enjoyment!

Friday evening while testing out a new camera mounting system for the Hero2 the tail starts playing up and the motor cuts out while flying inverted.
Luckily no damage to the model. The cause looks to be a loose/damaged connection between the ESC and battery.

Here is an earlier video shot in 1080p 25 frames/sec, the 720p 50 frames/sec video looks better I think:

Apologies for the general crap flying, my flying skills don't hold a candle next to most on here and I'd not flown for months due to our great British summer!

    Hi Danny

There is nothing wrong with your flying, Good to hear that there was no damage from the crash.
Double check your servo gears to see that they have not cracked or stripped a tooth.

There were a couple of occassions earlier in the flight where you had some nasty noises and vibes as well. Did you find a cause for the loss of power?

PS Have you thought of losing the 500L? A better motor really makes the 500 come to life...... Best upgrade i ever bought

Thanks for the kind words CPN.

I've checked over the servos and one of the cyclic servos is completely stripped and the other has slightly damaged gears.
        Pretty cheap repair thankfully.

Jen N, there were loose flakes of solder around the ESC connector (EC3), so I'm going to put a new connector on to be safe.
Hopefully that was the cause of the power loss, I'm guessing there was a momentary break in the connection and the ESC cut power to the motor and because I've got soft start enabled it didn't spin back up which would explain why I still had control over the model.
That's the theory so far anyway....

Re the motor, I've got a Scorpion motor I bought off someone on the forum. But it has loads of movement in the shaft so I need to dig out my pm's to find who I bought it from.
