ashley/trev, when you guys fly the 4200 pack do you think the HS goes up compared to the 2200's? i.e the better c rating is helping? my 2200's are still new so i will get more from mine but there was a marked HS difference with the 4200's, just wondering if the 2200's get there with cycles?
cheers

I haven't weighed the machine yet, don't have any accurate scales.
The packs were drained to 32%, never looked at how many mah it put back in.

Trev
I will be armed with the obligatory Video camera at the Flyin,,maybe people would like to see a full length flight on the 4200`s,i know i wouldnt mind watching
To take up on Trevs comment above about the power, this is one of the things that Mike pointed out to me,the vastly improved power availability with the 4200 packs..
I have the packs in front of me and they can EACH handle 75 amps constant,,151 amp burst, and there are two of them to share the load, dont forget they will be coming off of the model nice and cool and feeling like happy chappies not boiling away and pretty ****ed about the whole experience during the last 4 odd minsLast edited by ChrisB; 28-12-2007, 08:52 AM.

Chris, you sure you can film ok from so far up trevs arse?
Trev, seeing that you deliberatley destroyed Ade's K3d not so long ago, why not let Ade have a fly, and get an opinion from somone outside of the align base camp? Try it on both sets of packs and get an unbiased opinion of which feels nicer to fly, and end this bitching once and for all!

jamie, i think this is really easy and lets try to get this thread back on topic ish, the packs is where the topic is really for now.
2100 revo-use them if you have them but if you want cells this size buy the 2200's which will do well in the 450 also.
2200 revo-these are the packs to get if you want to fly the 450 and 500 with same packs constantly.
2500 FP- at this moment these balance the heli and in THEORY (not flown them) give the best power/weight performance at this time, but again, i don't want to run these long term. they are expensive and the reports i frequently see about cycles you can't help but notice, but i won't have these that long i think so i'm happy with that.
2700 revo (tbc)-imo these will be the best packs for this heli based on what i want from it. you know mike will deliver on prices and if anyone has seen my own pictures with an average setup for this heli then you will ses it is still very very slightly tail heavy on the 2500's so i assume the 2700's will bring that right in line.
3300 revo (tbc). this for me i think would fall under top end sport flier who still wants flight times but also decent performance, infact these may well be THE cell to have. obviously know more when mike gets them here should they come.
4200 rev-this has been discussed ad nauseam it seems but guys, lets remember this is 100% a viable pack for this heli and if a begginer-intermidiate guy came to my club with a 500 i would recommend the 4200's in a heartbeat. pretty sure 15 mins on a 12t is obtainable with this setup for a begginer. also the added benefit is these packs will see someone through to an advanced stage until they want to change down and lose the 200g ish on the packs if they feel the need to, or they can stick with them as trev has decided for this time.
anyone who has bought a 4200 you will not be dissapointed in it, infact anything in the 2000-4000 ish range so long as it physically fits should work well. please note at 2000mah you better have VERY VERY good packs.

great summary, I think I may go 3000s rather than 2700s as based on having a proper fly of the 4200s I think I only want to shed enough weight to make the heli a touch lighter but keep the mah's to keep the packs nice and happy.
Remember all the time you lower the average C you draw from the pack in a flight you lengthen how long that pack will last over time. So those playing down in the 2000-2200 range can expect short(er) cycle lifes and those playing up in the 4200s can expect very long cycle lifes.
Just to back Paul up here on the 4200..... whether you want to believe it or not three of us have now flown the 4200 and it is more than capable of some very powerful 3D. We can argue about it some more if others would like but the simple facts right now are three very good pilots have flown it and not found it wanting. Yes you can run a lighter pack but right now the ideal offerings (in my view) are not available. When we see some 6S stuff around the 3000mah I think then we have some proper talking to do. Mike assures me he'll have stuff out for testing with myself and Trev as soon as he gets the cells in to the country.

Sorry Ash but you just put the kiss of death to this heli for me in that statement on C ratings & pack life.
If I got this heli I would only use recycled packs from my 450 that is the only benefit of this heli for me.
If I am going to kill my Revo 2100 packs using them in 6s configuration then there is little point in buying it.
I am also willing to bet now theres demand for mid sized lipo packs we can probably look forward to price hikes rather than reductions on these packs so back to expensive lipos I cant realy afford would mean this heli will get as much use as my useless (no decent lipos to fly it) 600 E.

I think to put this in perspective, I gave this entire 'class' of heli the kiss of death for you. No 500 size heli will be any different on it's power requirements.
However, bear in mind that the average C draw that I demand when flying full 3D will be a long way different from that of a sport flier. The perspective I've given is from the point of view of flying a full 3D schedule at the average C rating that demands.Last edited by Ashley Davis; 28-12-2007, 01:37 PM.

Yes I agree you just did that Ash, "the entire class" including the atom
I'm staying well away this time as it smarts of Dragonus mk II pro & trex 600 E two money pits I've already fallen into by reading these forums & buying on the back of that reading.

I agree, and if you added typical sport flying into that equation then the lipos would not be stressed. As I mentioned earlier, the perspective most regularly represented by either me or Trev is that of a 3D flier using the machine to practice routines and set moves on (which is what both of us are using the 500 for).

i spoke to mike this morning and he knows i paid 110 quid for my fp packs and he said to me thats too expensive, which imo it is. he is striving to keep the 2700-3300 ish at a competative price as always.
he also told me they have a 99% firm price on the charger coming out, i will withold that until it is 100% decided but it is cheaper than i personally thought and not in this 150 quid bracket nonsense. shouldn't be long till we see them.
cheers
