    • So he found it heavy on the nose and Trevor didnt

Trev has shown that the 4200`s fit and the model flies well albeit a bit more nose heavy, this all proves the flexibility that the T Rex 500 offers

      • stu, you have a baseline, mine. thats all the info you need to work from and atleast you can see it first hand and comment back on your own thought, wether different from mine or not, opinions are like arseholes guys...everyone has one.

        cheers

        • The facts are most people will use a 2200,eventually a 3000 compromise..
          with a 9257.

          Theres our baseline.

The 4200 is nose heavy, the 2200 is light, the 3000 should be spot on.

          Done!

          • bitchin about gyros ain't gonna get anyone to a good baseline.

            Two facts :

            1) a 9257 or 9650 both work sufficiently well on a 720 gyro (or other make) to perform 3D. In our tests the 9257 was marginally better than the 9650. The stats support this so all we proved was the stats are right.
            2) a standard servo will work better......period, regardless of what piece of crap you strap on and call a gyro.

So can we all shut it on the gyro bull and get on with discussing something useful, the gyro debate is tired, never ending and utterly pointless. All it will do is fill the thread with polarized views of what's best and while I'd be happy to debate this endlessly in a gyro thread this isn't a gyro thread and never will be. You want to discuss gyros on a 500 start your own thread and I'm sure we will all be happy to join in.

As to pack sizes......there is no baseline. Again it depends on your personal preference and flying requirements and this model allows for a whole load of choices in that regard.
When I find one I like I'll make my preference known as will others.....that does not mean 'joe sport flier' should go buy it. If Trev likes 4200s so be it, I flew 5 mins on them today and they were pretty damn good but for me the model felt a touch (and I mean only a touch) heavier than I would like. I will go 2700s or 3000s.......others will go 2200s, 2500s or even 4200s if they want really long flight times.

              • Well said Chris. I dont know why this has got to this point & I think a few people who should know better are trying to bait poor old trev.
Now if you could just stand on your head trev whilst holding the flybar between your toes that is the industry standard for checking th C of G

                  • Chris,
I am not arguing with trev, if you read back I agree with him in terms of trim. But we are talking about a huge amount of weight here. Possibly 200 grams right at the front of the heli and a slightly larger servo on the back can not balance that. I would too very much like to buy the 4200 pack but I don't want to waste money on a pack I can't use. As you have probably seen from the photos that followed the debate there is a huge difference in CoG between Trev's and Raptorheli2's machines and I would like to understand why.

Dammit, I broke my toe today so I'm kinda hobbling around a bit at the moment, doubt I can support a heli with them...

One pack goes forward on the main tray, the other tucks right underneath up close to the motor......this is why it balances reasonably well, the weight isn't right out front. Add the bigger tail servo on the back, plus Trev has his RX, gyro and a cyclock right at the back of the heli and theirs your balance.

                          • Well said Chris & Ashley.

I have a CF kit on the way but haven't really settled on servos or gyro yet. I will be running it on 2100 revos and 2170 FP packs as that is what I have already - my choice.

It seems however that, from the sensible info that I have got from this thread, a 9257 on the tail would be A) good enough for me; and B) better for balance for the packs I intend to use. For that, I thank Ash & Trev

9560s on the cyclic look the way to go too. Just the gyro to decide on then...
                            Cheers, Lee.

                              • Hi Trvo..have you had a chance to stick the 500 on the scales to give us an AUW with the 4200...be interesting to see the difference between a light set up say using the 2100's as a comparision...

I know you are using the big tail servo and I think you mentioned a cycloc on board..anything else like DC-UP? etc..Also what mount are you running on the 720..or just using tapes or with the metal plate also?

                                cheers brian
