  • I think part of the issue is we need to agree on a setup most normal (ie recommended) people will fly.

That will then define the radio layout and balance. Then once we do that the only thing affecting it will be the batt.

Are we agreed on a 9257 or a 8900 as being normal setup?

    • 9257 will prolly be the norm for most people...I know some of the top guys in America are using 9254's though...I for one won't be going for a mini tail servo again...

I reckon thats down to gyro on that front.

Choice of gyro will have a HUGE effect on that. Some gyros are marginal at best on some setups

        • I've tried a few gyros on mini servos, they all had a disconnected feeling. The 720 is the best that I've tried on a mini servo so far...

          • i have to admit ive tried a fair few gyros. Cant say id agree on the CSM point...4 gyros, 4 that got sold. well apart fomr the 2 which are on that flybarless rig

Given the alternatives, 611, spartan, walkera i know what id rather fly. I just didnt get on with it though...there werent bad, just not what they sould have been.

              • Stu,
Not sure if you have come across these two videos. On the first one Bert Kammerer is giving some details on his setup and mentions 2200mAh packs and S9257 all around. I don't have test data to support this, but based on my best judgment and experience with heli tails I will probably agree with him that the trex500 is a small heli and in terms or torque the S9257 is sufficient. Keep in mind that the S9257 has 60% of the torque of a S9256 and people are flying 90 size nitros with that. One thing Bert forgot to mention is what gyro he is using but I will let you guess

                • There's only one other gyro on the market that meets my high standards and that's the SolidG. I've not had any problems with the 720's except from one of their loan ones I borrowed ages ago. They've changed the sensor since then...

                  • to be honest i havce an ark x400 with an 8700 on the tail.

Id agree that given the size and torque values the 9257 would be suffificient too. Given the hammering these helis have had id tend to suggest that the 9257 is more than adequate for application. Isnt the trex designed for a mini tail servo anyway?

                      • This seems to be getting a bit of a slanging match for us interested in info about the 500 to trawl thru to get to the good info Trev and Ash have supplied..

Any chance of a separate thread to bitch about lipo sizes

Trev likes the 4200`s others dont,i will make my own mind up as i am sure others will, its pretty obvious that heavier packs will move the c of g forward, the 500 seems capable of handling it there is certainly enough power..

I am sure we all welcome various peoples opinions on what works for them and what options are available, but its a bit pointless knocking other peoples personal choices..

Trev says the 4200`s fit and they suit him which is fine and effects nobody else

It was meant to be... unless Alan and Jason gave Align bad advice.

                            • Perosnally im trying to get a baseline to work from.

If theres a baseline, at least theres an element of debate rather than comparing apples with oranges!

                              • The facts are most people will use a 2200,eventually a 3000 compromise..

What the hell is constructive about knocking a 4200 pack..

It fits and it works as Trev as proved,as does a fullsize tail servo..
